At that price ... then if you're really in the market for a 42" plasma then it's worth a trip to your nearest RS to view it on display.
Quality/price ratio might be just what you want ... or you may find otherwise and need something better like a Hitachi or Panasonic. Definately worth the trip and viewing with a good source tho'. I wouldn't necessarily trust what other people say unless they actually have one themselves, or have demo'd it with a decent source against the similar priced competition.0 -
Panasonic PW6 or PW7 are awesome screens.
Head over to avforums for loads of info and advice.

AVforums is a great resource. The only potential downside is that, in terms of plasma's, there is heavy pushing of Panasonic by a number of members at the exclusion of other brands. It is common for cheaper/other brands to be dismissed and there is no real sense that many have made the effort to really check them all out. The Panasonic screens are very good, as johnnypanic mentions, as are Hitachi, but they are also around £1500+ and you need to add mountings and, sometimes, additional boards. It would be good to have some people who own cheaper screens making user comments on AVforums. but maybe they are a bit shy to do so in case they get knocked back by the so called experts. Definately use the likes of Panasonic as a benchmark, but take time to check out cheaper brands too rather than rely on other people's views. You may find the quality works for you personally ... and you save lots of cash too.0

Bought one of these plasmas in June. It is sitting waiting to go back to the manufacturer as it has stopped working
£999 is a good price for it though if it would work :-/0 -
Own a Panasonic PW6 and believe me it is excellent ;D
But best bet is to go and view for yourself. Do remember however you'll need to be aware of what signal is being fed to the plasma. Shops can quite easily make one brand look much better than other simply by the signal feed that they give it.
Another bit of advice, if buying by credit card, either buy with a price promise card (in case the price goes down just after you buy it) or with a card which offers extended warranty on plasma, e.g. Nationwide.
Just away to watch an episode of Angel on a big screen ;D 8)
