Sounds like I'm not gaining much so far...my kid's biscuits are going to be about 0.25 pence cheaper. Would rather have winter fuel allowance widened to include long term sick and disabled or tax taken off gas and electricity.

Sigh...

Keep listening, they're talking about this at the moment.....

The government will use statuatar something to make sure Gas and Electricity truely reflect the cost to the business's.

Also (I was doing 2 thing at once) there were a lot of boo's about increasing petrol tax or something to do with petrol because of VAT reduction.

    This bit I don't understand:

For basic rate taxpayers, this year's increase in the personal allowance of £120 a year will be made permanent and will also rise to £145 in April.

    ^^ So will personal allowances go from 603 to 618? (£6035 + £145) or 630? (£6035 + £145 + £120)

    6035 + 125 as 20% of 125 is the extra £25.

surely that defeats the whole point of reducing VAT? You drive to get your shopping.... spend more on petrol but less on shopping. Hm. Public Transport ftw?
  • OK...a couple of pound on Child Benefit is nice. At £2 a week for approx 12 weeks, that's £24 I didn't have before. That'll go on the heating then.

Have I missed anything for the disabled?

    Correct.

He raised the personal allowance last time to give everyone on basic rate tax an extra £120. Now, you will get an extra £145, so the personal allowance will go up by £125
