Food steamer..

I want a food steamer. Don't want to spend too much as it won't get used 'that' much.
Cheapest i've seen is This one in the Argos sale. Are there any differences in steamers or are they basically the same. I'd prefer a silver one if anybody knows of any not too much more.
cheers

I had one, we used it once, it was so hard to get it clean and it seemed to take ages to get up to steam. I reverted to my trusty pan steamer ( that you just stick on the hob) which must be 15 years old. I gave the electric one away to someone who admits she has used it once.0

My Mum bought me one of these last month and to be honest I can't be @rsed messing about with it. The food steams ok but the liquid at the bottom is really difficult to pour out for stock and it's a pain to clean. Mine's got mould growing in it now as it has a window on the base to show you how much water's left in it.... but which is impossible to get clean.
I've had a metal steamer (that sits on top of a pan) for ages and really prefer it... it's easier to chuck in the cupboard, easy to wash, easy to use and you can use it as a colander ....no not a calendar.... a colander!Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

I feel like I'm stalking you today
Have to agree though. I've got a luverly metal number that sits on my saucepans - sooooooo much easier S_G.
I car booted our electrical one - I might have used it twice though
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Don't think you'll get one cheaper than that.
One bit of advice though - storage, it is best to get one that "stacks" so that all the bowls fit into each other, otherwise these things take up lots of space when they are not in use.
I totally disagree with the the other comments about cleaning. In my opinion rinsing out a couple of steamer bowls is a lot easier that washing up saucepans - you can never burn food in a steamer!0 -
I have one I won at bingo in a seaside resort about 4 years ago and it is used at least 3 times a week. I also haev an electric one which hasnt been out of box as I love the cheap one.
It is great, put meat into oven, pototoes into one steamer pot, veg into the other and then use the water in the base at the end to make the gravy. Dosnt wast the nutreients either then and much less washing up.
I love it but would say only buy a cheap one, no need for a fancy one.0 -

yeah but my metal steamer and my saucepans just get chucked in the dishwasher.
My old electrical steamer had to be washed in the sink. Thats time consuming

I needed one for making baby food, I just got the one from the Tesco 'Value' range for under a tenner. It does the job just fine, and is easy to use and clean.
It's white though, not silver.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. i also use metal steamer that sits in saucepan. spuds in bottom, other vegs on top, would not be without it. cheap (2.99 @ wilkinsons ish, or cheaper still on a car boot!) easy to store and doesn't clutter my kitchen up!
love it.
