Debt Co bill after 11 months - is this right?

Can anyone help ttell me if this is legal and if I have to pay it!

I bought a shower from Plumb Center in Jan this year, the cheque bounced but was then represented and cleared.

I got a letter today from ScotCall Debt Collecting Services demanding £58.50 and having rang them to find out what this was for they inform me that Plumb Center must have used a third party Company to recover the money - they are called Certegy Limited and they are claiming the fee back from me.

Can they make me pay this as it was 11 months ago when I bought the shower and I have had no demands from this money before this red letter demanding I have 7 days to pay from ScotCall Debt Collecting Services!
Can anyone help me with this as I am a bit short on time.

Yes you have to pay.
They 6 years to make you pay for the shower afaik!

Sorry a bit confused. What is the £58.50 for if you say the cheque cleared the second time it was represented? Surely they have received payment?

I'd assume the money they're chasing now is the bank charges the shower place incurred from a bounced cheque.

Yes Plumb Center have the payment for the shower. I think this is the cost Plumb Center incurred by passing the debt to Certegy to recover payment for them.

The cheque actually cleared the next day and Im confused why it has taken 11 months before they ask for the money and also I get a Final Notice having not had any communication beforehand for this!

Yes - only it has taken 11 months and the first thing I get is a Final Notice from another Debt Collecting Service.

I am guessing I have to pay in the end but I got clobbered from the bank for the cheque bouncing (due to money not clearing in time - and I take responsibility for that) but Im cross with this and the amount of time it has taken for them to demand it.

I'm not too sure about this one.

Certegy didn't actually recover the payment on behalf of the Plumb Centre, so why would they be getting any payment? They didn't do anything.

I'll have a look after work when i have some time.
