Having To Pay A Tv Licence Even If One Doesnt Have A T.v.?

I was told that if equipment could receive TV signals then it was counted even if only used for playing DVDs. We had an TV license inspector call at my work and this was what he told us. I can't see it be enforced for PCs though.
When purchasing a TV you had to give your name and address, this would then be checked against records held with the licensing authority and consequently they would call on you if you hadn't got one registered. It's been a while since a bought a TV so I'm not sure if this is still done??
I always found the 'man in a van' advert hilarious
oh yes this is still done.. bought 2 tellys recently for presents and got letters about not having a license.. its in my other halfs name but sometimes they dont believe me so told them to come round.. ive told them once ive informed them we have a license and the tellys ive bought are presents and they keep hounding me i will seek legal advice.. got a letter apologising but telling me its the law for the shops to tell them..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear

That's not true, you don't need a licence. To avoid any doubt, detune the channel buttons and disconnect the aerial. If you have no aerial, there's even less of a problem. Ask for a refund of the rest of the licence fee.I was told that if equipment could receive TV signals then it was counted even if only used for playing DVDs.
