Options
Hi, its our wedding anniversary this weekend (29th) as usual my darling husband has nothing planned so just wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere nice for dinner that's not going to cost a fortune and maybe any suggestions for drinks or something after?

Haven't been out in town for ages so really don't have a clue plus OH is very fussy eater so has to do steak/burger/ribs/pizza!!!

  • I had lunch in 'four corners' lately and I quite liked it. Now it is a hotel restaurant which makes it a bit less intimate but I really liked the food and thought it very reasonable for Belfast. Can't find a website for it but see here for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_Quarter,_Belfast. There is a bar but you're right in the heart of cathedral quarter if you want to go on somewhere nearby.

I also ate in Muriels lately and really liked it but again for lunch and don't know if they do your hubby's required meals :) Again I can't find a link to it but here's some more info http://www.nifoodreview.com/muriels-review.htm

I'd say avoid Deanes etc, ate there lately and think it's really pretty expensive for what you get.

    Enjoy your meal...
  • Darcy's on Bradbury place. Does traditional food, lovely atmosphere and not v dear. Sent my parents there for thier silver anniversary and it was £50 for 3 courses for 2 people plus a soft drink and a glass of wine...on Valentines Day! They don't have a website but the food is great, does steak and roasts.

Empire isn't too far away or Laverys is just next door.

Was in the Dirty Duck on Saturday night - very varied menu - great portions - bill for 3 two course meals - 1 bottle of nice wine and 2 pre-dinner drinks £71.00 - very tasty and that lovely view of the Lough and the lights on the Co Antrim Coast

  • Why not try the Cloth Ear beside the Merchant hotel. Good, reasonably priced menu and plenty of options for places to go afterwards. If you're willing to travel outside the city centre, I was at the Balloo House Bistro last week. The food and service were really excellent.

  • Cloth ear is nice too :)
  • I had lovely meal in Deanes at Queens a few months ago - lovely peaceful atmosphere, great menu and trendy style, nice little table for 2 in the window. Prices were pretty good for this type of restaurant - about £50 inc non alcoholic drinks for 3 courses and coffees. Recommend it!
Feel free to thank me, it makes my toes tingle and my ears go warm :T
  • I know it's not the cheapest but the Harbour View Teppanyaki restaurant in Belfast is fantastic and well worth a visit for a special occasion. It could cost you £40+ each but it depends on what you get and how many courses.

If you go for the Teppanyaki you sit high up at a horseshoe shaped table where the chef cooks your food in the middle as you watch. It's certainly an experience watching him throw an egg up in the air, break it on his knife as it falls and make you really scrummy fried rice to go with the rest of your food!!

Mmmmmm, thank you all for suggestions!! I'm hungry now!!
Love the Dirty Duck but then would also love to try somewhere different....not hard to please or anything!!! Might go for one of those in Catherdral Quarter as plenty of choice where to go...have a work night out coming up in Darcey's so save it for then!!
Thanks again, and anyone ever wants to take me to Harbour View I would be very appreciative, thats my husbands idea of a nightmare...unless they do a gravy chip! :)
  • Oops, I forgot you wanted somewhere that would do steak/burger/ribs/pizza!

Have you though about Frankie & Bennys at Victoria Square? I had a fabulous rack of ribs there last week and the puddings are to die for! Our bill for a three course meal for 4 people with drinks inc. wine was around £90 which we thought was excellent.

Check out their web site where you can drool over the menus:

  • Actually now that Jenny said this, tony romas in the south of the city might also be for you. It's near Queen's (just halfway between there and shaftesbury square on univ road). I've only been once since it is c**p if you don't eat meat but huge portions and all that sort of american meaty stuff....and not too expensive. If you google it you'll get it fairly easily.
