    Hi Alison

I guess low fat and do not mind counting calories. I should add I did lose 6 stone about 4 years ago but then due to personal problems and health issues have put the 6 stone plus more back on.

I used to walk a lot also which I can no longer do. :(

I guess more than anything I need motivation when I want to give up.

Maybe weight watchers would be good for you, its better than something drasticc like Slimfast or Atkins. With WW you can eat most things in moderation, I joined their site in January but didnt really have the motivation to keep it up.

Before you spend your money youve got to want to loose weight otherwise no diet will work.

Could you buy a exercise dvd to do at home to burn some calories or a cheap exercise bike?
  • Do you really need to spend money to get support and motivation?? There are thousands of free online web forums (like this one, and hey, lets even include this one in what Im going to say...) that are full of people loosing weight who support each other online. I dont see any benefit in paying for online support when you can easily find it for free with a few clicks though google. Im sure if you started up thread on here you would find many people willing to support you and even join you on your weightloss journey, the same way people support each other on here with monetary journeys.
There are thousands of free recipie sites that will help you find easy and affordable healthy meals to cook and their are hundreds of free online exercise regimes you can follow (even try youtube.com to find exercise videos).
You don't need to pay to find all these things, so why not save money while you loose weight? The only benefit of paying to go to a face to face meeting is that you get the face to face interaction and support but you can get all that for free online!
  • My cousin has lost her weight through slimming world and she said that it was the peer pressure of being weighed in front of the class that kept her on the straight and narrow.

The online groups might do the same for you. i think tescos gives a free trial. i did find a link to a totally free one on here but i never bothered to sign up for it - maybe a forum search will find it for you.

I'm well on the way to getting rid of my excess weight but i've gone the low-carb route as it suits me perfectly - no being hungry, no calorie counting and simple rules for what to cut out totally.

i got all of my low-carb weight loss plans and diet books by ordering them in through my local library so it has cost me nothing. My support group has been the low-carb thread found on this forum. even though i'm more of a lurker than a poster it has made me feel included and people who understand are there if i need them.

There are lots of different types of slimming threads on this board - have a skim through and find one that seems to suit you best.

No matter what method you decide to follow i really recommmend you get hold of "the idiot proof diet" book by India Knight and Neris someone. Even if you don't follow their low carb way of eating their diaries following their weight loss will be illuminating. My mental approach to losing weight, and sticking (or not) to the eating plan has totally changed and is the reason why my weight is continuing to go down despite my occasional lapses. (i logged on to report my off-piste lapse with cadbury's dairy milk).

    Best of luck to you
