  • The leeches that take £150K+ salaries should be taxed 60% if not more. 80% for the thieves taking over £500K.

It was much higher before the Tories slashed taxes for the rich and loaded it on indirect taxes to screw the poorer members of our society.

    GG

That'll be those darned leeches paying more in income tax per year than you or I ever will?

And more in VAT on purchases as well.

Those leeches that maybe took a risk to set up a business that now employs people and brings money intothe UK?

Or maybe spent years (and thousands) to do difficult studying in further education to better themselves?

Hard working people who've been successful?

The people who's taxes keep things like the NHS and the benefits system going?

Yeah, damn their breeches and their duckponds, we don't need 'em do we George? We don't need highly skilled surgeons, barristers, entrepreneurs, business people, company directors, top engineers, successful managers.

They're all leeches, aren't they George? Lets go and key a Ferrari.

Jeez, I despair of the petty jealousy of the British sometimes. :(

  • Prices are set by market forces.

When we had Mortgage Interest Relief at Source (MIRAS), houses cost more than they needed because people could afford to pay more - because they had MIRAS.

Fish and chips cost about £4.50 and the F&C business usually pays 12% VAT or 48p per portion. If the shop didn't pay VAT (if it was below the VAT threshold or crooked), a portion would still cost £4.50.

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.

In my humble opinion, leeches are those that take from people that have more than themselves. That just about describes everyone on here that thinks the tax raise is just and fair. It's abhorrable.

    Couldn't agree with you more.

The real leeches are those who are happy to take take take without so much as a thought as to what they could do to put back in. If we could sort those out then we might be getting somewhere...

But of course it's the British way to knock success, sadly.

Wow, I couldn't afford a home and a rental property in our area, GG. I don't think my family are anymore leeches then you are (I don't think LLs ar leeches if I haven't made that clear).

£150k in London is NOT a huge wage at all with housing costs factored in.

I do not see this as any more positive for our huge financial sector workers, foreign investors employing UK based managers. EU businss could move to anothr EU country.

Oh, and just to add, a VAT cut means nothing to me. A tax cut would have been useful to me, but since I don't splurge on expensive electronics on a credit card I don't have, I am not helped at all with my mortgae, electricity bills or food. Great, thanks GB.

Ditto. And encouraging people to spend spend spend does nothing to help rid the country of the enormous debt mountain that is causing a lot of the current ills. That's what really needs resolving, then people would have more money to put into the economy, not borrowed money that doesn't really exist and will cost and cost in interest payments for ever more for many people.

taxing high earners lots makes very little difference overall, as there as so few of them. it might make a few angry armchair communists feel better about themselves, but it's hardly going to bankroll the NHS.

you could tax people on 500k a year 99% of their salary - wouldn't make enough money to bring down basic rate income tax by even 1%.

    .

That's all that matters for many, just the chance to "get at them", and "bring them down a peg or two".

It's not about money, it's about the politics of envy.

    Sad.
