Waitrose's further reductions gone?

In the past, Waitrose would reduce prices of reduced items near the closing time if the product's use-by date was the same day. However recently (yesterday and today) I've seen in two different stores the staff collecting all these reduced items into a trolley and disappearing off with the products.

Has the company had a change in policy and are they not selling or dropping the prices of the reduced items or do they sell them suddenly out of the blue?

Hope someone knows and has this happened to you?

    Hi

We were in our local Waitrose yesterday and they were reducing fresh food and putting it back on the shelves for people to buy, this was around 4.45pm

Was it the the same product in both stores, it could have been a product withdrawal?

Which stores was it, my local stores, Marlborogh and Salisbury usually reduce by around 30% on the last day of shelf life.
  • I seem to remember reading on here a while back that sometimes the staff take the products out the back of the store and do the reductions there, and then put them back in one go as it prevents them being mobbed LOL.

My local Waitrose does it there and then - complete with flock of vultures around the person doing the reductions
  • Thank you for the replies: both stores did the reductions there and then before, even though they were swamped slight! But recently when they disappear, they never seem to return! Maybe I gave up too quickly!
I don't think it's a product withdrawal as the trolleys I've seen had a variety of food present. But thank you for your thoughts!
  • Hi,

I've seen staff at our Waitrose spirit food into the back as well!
I noticed it quite a while ago tho, so its not a new practice.

They still seem to do 2nd discounts late in the day.

I wondered if it was so the staff could have first crack at the goods?

    Cheers,
    Karen

no,staff policy wouldn't allow us to do that.
I think it is a case of some reduction staff not wanting to be mobbed so do the reductions without "the vultures".
Our store do, do second reductions

Waitrose in Sutton Coldfield does as long as they stock the item.
