  • Check out Ercol on ebay - all the cabinet furniture is made of elm and ash with some pieces stained dark oak, some medium oak and some left natural which will blend with light oak. The moneysaving alternative is to have a look around second hand shops and if you find the style you want but not the colour you can strip and polish.

Thanks Dora, but I was rather hoping to avoid a 'project'.. too many of mine just don't get finished I'm afraid. I did check Ebay before posting and googled a fair bit but nothing with a realistic price turned up. The M&S one is ideal but even their sale price is scary.

We bought all of our light oak (solid) furniture very cheaply from our local pine shop. They have diversified into oak as that's the more fashionable wood at the mo. Might be worth contacting a few pine shops.

I too was shocked at the prices locally! £1k for a sideboard!? Bah.

Find a design that fits the bill in a local retailer (I found a number of Mark Franklin oak pieces in a local Pine dealer)... Then contact these guys to source the items at a sensible price! Just fill in what you need into their "request a quote" page.

http://www.webfurniture.co.uk/ - these are a great bunch of guys. I saved about 40-50% going this route.

I CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NO DIRECT RELATIONSHIP WITH THESE PEOPLE!

    Cheers

A local supplier to me with an Oak range..

Prices are reasonable. Solid oak just isn't cheap. However, from memory I think this range of oak is perhaps slightly more red than the MandS piece.

Portal - thanks for the webfurniture link. I popped in a request for a quote from the Willis and Garner site.. It'll be interesting to see what they come back with. Thanks again.

The suite I'm trying to match up to is quite pale and light as it was stripped when I bought it 18 years ago. I thought if I bought something quite plain it would blend in.
