Hi everyone, I am new to this hard core Old Style of living & am looking to save money wherever possible. But what is a whoopsie? Is it reduced stuff from supermarket?
Thankyou!

Hi Gemma!
Whoopsie is (I think) orginally from Asda- yes you're right, anything coming up to the sell-by date that they need to get rid of. Each supermarket has their own way of marking up, yellow labels being a favourite method- often located somewhere obscure-ish, but you will usually find some MSE-ers gathered round it I bet!;)
Bread is the obvious thing, also often a chiller with meat, cheese, yoghurts etc, and you may also get a shelf in the ambient aisles with dented cans, or even cans without labels, if you fancy can-roulette!
Don't forget the difference between sell-by and use-by. And even then, use your nose and eyes, rather than being a slave to the dates.Won Mulberry Bag Jan 090 -
Another abbreviation you'll come across on here is "YS" - this means Yellow Stickered, again this is reduced stuff.:D0

When Frank Spencer referred to it, it meant something else!0

Thanks everyone for your help - you are making me feel v welcome! I usually try & get as many whoopsies as possible but for some reason whenever I see there are some out & get surrounded by pushy trolleys! Maybe I need to shop late at night.

You'll also find that a 'whoopsie' is the favourite food of your freezer.
Our freezer loves them :P0 -

I've got some really good yellow stickered items in Asda lately early in the morning, before 8am. I pop in on my walk home from my early morning swim. It's mostly meat but as lots of people aren't buying nicer cuts or organic stuff I frequently get it half price which makes it very reasonable. Also the place is empty then so no pushing! Actually it's nothing new, as a student working in Sainsbury's 20 years ago I used to do reductions on a Saturday afternoon. People would follow me around the shop to see what I was going to reduce next!0

Not too late though, gemmas5677 - or else there might be none left .
A couple of weeks ago, I got a lovely rib of 28-day matured beef reduced down from around £11.00 to around £3.00 - now stashed in my freezer and possibly ear-marked for Christmas Lunch. This weekend my prize was an Organic boned leg of pork down to £4.00 :j - possibly New Year taken care of as well.
Last year's first prize was a Turkey Crown for £3.50 and a pack of Asda's Extra Special Stuffing for 50p.
Good Luck with the whoopsie hunt!0
