But I think a place is never over rated if you are near your family. (and i think that is how the majority of people think)
I presume that is why you find London is not overated either.

One reason, but a long way from being hte only one. I love London, it's alive and vibrant.

I think it is the place for young professionals because thats where they can get experience under their belts and then move when they marry and have kids and so on with a damn good cv to take with them. .

I don't think working in london guarantees a great CV. Sorry I do feel like some do see it as the center of the universe.(how many people go with the idea with the streets lind with gold and end up sleeping in a bedsit!)

It is the financial capital of the UK also and unfortunatly that is the sector being hit the hardest.
Good CV or not those people are going to strugle to find a job.

Londoners are a tad like Americans....Think nothing exists outside its boundaries.

I personally thought the place was a sh*thole, over run by immigrants and foreigners. There are a lot of people with attitudes, especially the younger generation and a lot of stuck up snobbery types who think they are gods gifts. Friday night in the West end, full of bottle tanned fake boobed money grabbing 'who**s' basically. Oh i can go on and on, the wannabe fake everything WAGS always used to make me cringe.

Lot more to life than all that rubbish. No point earning big bucks if its not enough to buy you anything.

But on the other foot, and not to stir the pot too much, i do have family and friends there and visit now and again and there are a lot of genuinely nice people inside the M25 boundaries too.

I never brought in to that. I am in management now and now earn 250% more than I did back then.
Addmitidly that is less than I could of earend had i gone to london.

But i have a 5 bed detached house in the country in a great area and a minute mortgage by london standards.

Could i achived that in london, I very much doubt it. Ambition pays on how well and hard you work at somthing, not for how long and where.

    Wow, a 250% payrise ;)

I moved here, far from most of my family, for the cultural life (classical music and theatre being my main passions) as well as for the employment choices.

Nearly a decade later I am still getting everything I ever wanted from moving here - and most of my family has now gravitated closer, which is an added bonus ;)

I think London is great :D

As I say depends on the career path you are following. In some cases it is the centre of the universe :)

Oh and yes, there are lots of problems there but to be able to go to the theatre whenever you want (get the cheapie last minute tickets or the two for one offers), to see the galleries, the museums, the ancient buildings and so much more - of course its a brilliant place to live.

You right we don't have any of that outside london. The rest of the UK was only built 40 years ago.;)

As I said I went to london for the career profession I believed in myself and demanded to be thrown in at the deep end, which I was and flourished. I also wanted to start 2 businesses that I could only really run in/from London as well as work. This enabled me to retire early and mortgage free in Dorking as I said London is ideal for the ambitious young professional, but not so good for 'the well off and want to enjoy my life without hassle now' that's why I left. I would still have been successful outside of London but not as successful
