When to add TESCO CODE online??

I'm fairly new to online shopping with Tesco. Done about 3 shops...
In the past I've added codes after shopping at the chekout point - no probs.
When I book my next delivery slot, say 2 weeks ahead, I do this early to secure the time I want. So I book the slot and add a couple of items into the basket, as you need to checkout to confirm the delivery slot. I then go back and fill up my shopping before my next order is due, you then checkout the added items. BUT - on the second checkout, you don't see the payment page with the code box to input codes.
My problem is if I just checkout a few bits to secure my delivery time, I can't add the vouchers for over £50/£75 spend, as it isn't that much, then when I complete the shop I can't add them at the end as the code box is not accessible!
Is Mr Tesco being really crafty here? do I have to change the way I shop, not booking my next slot early or just suggest to Tesco that this needs changing on their system to allow for codes while shopping the way I'm doing it.
I know if you try the same code more than once it won't work, but there should be a message saying that when it's put in. I thought I once had a message on initial checkout for my 2 wk in advance shop, saying the code would be held in the basket and granted at the end if the shopping came up to the required amount, but this time - no message at all, not even one saying I can't have the code I tried to put in for a £75 shop against a few loaves of bread...
HELP anyone understand this pls??

Hi Newbird.
When you reserve your delivery slot add a few really expensive items to your basket to the minimum spend value of your code and check them out using it. When you come to do your shop just take out the extra items and confirm the changes.
Hope this helps.0 -
WOW - Brains!! Why didn't I think of that! :T
Too many snowballs methinks, (the yellow advocaat ones!) that my excuse n I'm sticking to it.
Cheers  n Happy New Year.
I will go cancel my order and start again. I knew there must be a way round this. Lateral Thinking Rules - OK!!
