agree with any ofthe others though
Whilst I agree pound shops can sell lots of tat I also think they sell lots of great things. I picked up several drawing books and sets for my DS2 from Poundland - Dora the Explorer, Postman Pat, Noddy and Thomas the Tank Engine and they are brilliant. I would be prefectly happy to give these as presents for other children

Poundland have some pink screw storage boxes that you could pop crayons or pens and craft bits into.
Ikea sell a massive jar of multi-coloured beads for about £3.50.
As others have said, Wilkos is great for craft stuff.
I aim to spend a fiver on a child's birthday present and if I can do it for less than all the better

DS went to a third birthday party yesterday - same circumstances as the OP, little girl from nursery, don't really know them. I bought a Barbie Petites Club thing from woolies for £3 something. It's for age 3 and over - it's a small doll with some accessories in a plastic ball. DD is having two for Christmas so I'm sure it will go down well.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I would spend about £5.

Up to a fiver here too. Look out for special offers that can be put away for parties, and buy big packs of birthday cards to save money, as you'll find they get invited to a number of parties.
I spend a little more if it's a close friend and I see something I know they would really like. Here I go again on my own....0 -
For me it depends upon who I am giving to - anything from £4 to £20. I do try & buy things in sales so I have a stock of presents that have cost me less.
It was a good friends DD's 2nd birthday last week & I gave her a bike that was originally £30 that I picked up for £7.50 in the boots Jan sale! I did tell her how much it cost so she did not feel it necessary to spend too much on my LO's presents.0 -
Yep, £5 here too.

A fiver is the going rate, although if you are a savvy shopper you can get away with about £3.Loving the dtd thread. x0

My kids are only 1&2 so I haven't really had this problem yet but I would say about £3-£5. My best friends and I have agreed a limit of £5 for each others children as they all get a lot of pressies from relatives and are too young to really know what they want, Although for her 2 year olds last birthday I got him a gift bag filled with Organic baby crisps that cost me a total of £2 and was probably the present he got the most use from (I did ask mum first). We also agreed not buy each others children anything for xmas until they are 5 when they will be old enough to notice and appreciate it.
I would never send my child to a party without a present, even if I could only afford something that cost a £1. It's the thought that counts.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500
