New Year, New Start (Well Actually Carrying On Where I Left Off)!

Am a bit p'd off today! Don't get paid until Friday and I'm £144.67 overdrawn!

I'm waiting on £155 to be transfered to my account from Paypal so it will cover it but I really wanted to use that money to pay off my Egg card!

I spent just over £200 this Christmas, that was on presents, and a all day work bash (very messy ;) ) so without it I would have done well this month.

Just a bit gutted coz since my  moment back in September/October I hadn't been overdrawn at all. And I've only managed to go a couple of months until I've done it again!

However I won't give in! On the plus side I have reduced my debt by £1,984.12 since October 1st and £2,298.40 from it's highest! :j

Have reduced the interest I'm paying by "tarting" and am feeling alot better than I was 3 months ago!

Just got to make sure I keep throwing the as much as I can towards the debts. Had loads of "expenses" since I started my debt free journey. Anyone else get the feeling that every month there is something else unexpected to pay for?

Just wanted to finish by saying a massive thank you for all the advice you have given not just me, but everyone else.

This might sound daft having £30k of debt but I bet now I am more financially clued up than 90% of the population, and for this I thank you all. :T

I hope you all have a fantastic new year and to those of you like me trying to get debt free, WE WILL DO IT! :D

Don't beat yourself up, you've done really well since October in making an inroad into your debt. It seems you've only really gone overdrawn because of the expense of Christmas & I'm sure you know that you have thousands of companions on this score!

With luck once you've cleared this overdraft it'll be the last one you have in 2006.

Keep up the good work & have a prosperous new year to enable you to reduce what you owe quicker than you'd anticipated. :rudolf:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • Happy New Year all! well done to southernscouser for making such a decent dent on your debt so far - and you're right, with each other as support, it's a question of when rather than if we'll be debt free. Thanks too from our house for the help over the last year - I know I only started posting about six months ago but I lurked for a good while getting ideas before I admitted how bad things were in our house! That said, in the last year we've gone from barely keeping heads above water to having spare cash to breathe with (that is, until the car insurance comes up at the end of the month!). OH turns 30 this summer, and as a celebration of getting debt free and a birthday pressie I've been able to book us both a trip to Montreal. Any extra savings in the next couple of months will pay for odds and ends, and the month's cc payment that we won't have to make in April (WOO HOO!) will pay for the hotel bill. It's amazing to think how bad things were a year ago, and a year from now we'll have spare cash in the bank and have been able to fix the things in our house that are leaking/broken.

So thanks again everyone - let's keep motivating each other as well as the people only just finding the site now!

  • Think of it like falling off a bike! Just get back on and start back where you left off.

No one ever said paying off debt would be easy. You have done really well since October - so you KNOW you're gonna succeed.

There might be a bit of a distraction along the way but as long as the distractions are not too big or too numerous you'll be ok. It'll just take a bit longer.

Every month, something crops up that is unexpected...washing machine dying, car repairs, etc etc.
I know the experts have a contingency fund for these things but we are just getting to grips with what the bills add up to each month, and our income just about covers them, don't yet take into account birthdays etc so allowing for these things seems miles off yet.

Well done for clearing so much of your debt in such a short space of time. We have cleared 1K and I am really pleased with that considering the small difference between our income and outgoing figures.

I think that this site and especially the people that make up the forum is fantastic. Before I found it I thought it was just us....now I have realised that many of my friends are in a similar position except they still have thier heads in the sand. Reading this regularly has not only given me tips on how to save money but also given virtual support in the sense that we now feel empowered to sort it out and never get in the same position again.

Don't beat yourself up SS you didn't have a chance to budget for this Christmas next year you will definately be in control. Look at it this way, if you had thought in October I want to get rid of my debts but Christmas is coming (and other excuses) you would be even more in debt. Celebrate your success and good wishes for a prosperous new year.

Just wanted to say thanks to all those who posted. :D

I'm feeling more upbeat today. Just had an off one yesterday! Call it the male time of the month! :rotfl:

Have to get my hair cut today which is another £6 spent but I dare say it will make me look dashing so I don't mind! ;)
