V tech or Leapster, which one is best?

Hi
I wanted to get my 4.5 year old son a console for Christmas, but am undecided on which one to get, the V tech v smile or the lepster one.
Also dont know wether to get the big console or hand held, anyone got any tips, or anyone got one?
I'm only going to get the second hand one off ebay, so it wont be the most up to date versions.

  • The V Tech Vsmile is brilliant but make sure you get an adapeter as well. My girls also have a pink leapster each as well and love them, especially in the car. They are 5 and 6 now and do not play with the vsmile as much.

I would say the Vsmile is for up to about 5 yrs and the leapster for 4yrs up

    Hope that helps!!
  • hi there, i have the v smile for my son whos just turned 5 , he actually never often played with it, however his gran just got him the vsmile pocket and he loves it, he calls it his "ds" whats great with this is it takes the vsmile games that he already has,and it can be used in the car and also through the tv too. , it comes with the wires to connect it to the tv. He is mopst impressed with this and feels like he is a grown up like his older brother and sister

Thanks, I decided last night I'd get the hand held one, so will go for that.

  • i dont have either of the 2 you mentioned BUT both my kids have leap-pads. the little 1 age 3 has the my 1st leap-pad and the 6yr old has the normal leap-pad. they love them and they go everywhere. the only problem is that they dont have a mains charger and are batteries only. but we use re-chargeable ones.

loads of games for both and i think they are great. plus the normal leap-pad has games suitable for upto age 8! so we have a couple more years left with it.

My DD had a leapster 2 for her 4th birthday & she loves it. There are loads of games & hunt around as we bought (sorry can't remember the website) 3 games at £9.99 each (& had quidco) rather than the £19.99 in most shops.

  • My 2 boys 5yrs/ 7yrs got the Leapsters last year, and they love them. They take them everywhere and play with them all the time. The best money we have ever spent. Never tried the other ones.

Have just bought them Wall e and Spongebob games for them this year too.

Its got to be the handheld leapster. Mine have one each, best of all the games often appear for £1.99 in Home Bargains.

We've bought my son (age 4) the Leapster for Xmas. Had 20% off all Leapfrog toys at ELC a couple of weeks ago and found a 20% off voucher on here so got another 20% off. I think he's going to love it, also bought the Star Wars game.

Well I wnent for the Leapster one in the end.
Got the console, plus a game and carry case al boxed with instructions for £20.
And I've just bought the diego game for £12.50, I'm sure he'll love it!
So wheres the best place to look for games, I didnt think of looking in ELC, looked everywhere else and the selection was poor, only one game in Woolies.
