Help.....my laptop's dying!

Hi All,
Hoping someone can help. I've got a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop and I've got a couple of problems with it.
Firstly, whenever I turn the laptop on I keep getting a dialogue box (think that's what it's called!) that is titled "Explorer.exe - Application Error", and it says "The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000142). Click on ok to terminate the application.". After this nothing happens, it just shows my screen saver and that's all. However, I've found that I can still get into Explorer by going to the Task manager and doing File, New Task (Run...), and then typing in Explorer.exe and everything seems to then run as normal.
Can anyone help me stop this message coming up and everything to start running normally again? Any help would be very much appreciated.
Secondly, my laptop battery isn't working at all. I noticed that the battery was lasting for shorter and shorter periods and now I can't tunr the laptop on without plugging it in to the mains. When I unplug it it goes straight off. Please can someone let me know where to get a new battery and how much it's going to cost me??
Sorry about waffling, but if anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Thanks
Rob

Laptop batteries are notoriously dodgy. To prolong their life its best to only plug them into charge when the battery is pretty much completely empty.
As for a replacement, Google is your friend:

I found a fair few ad links at the top to suppliers. Have a look round for the best price.
And as for your problem at startup, try here:

It could be a lot of things but that should be a good place to start - do the standard check you don't have a virus, spyware etc.0 -
reinstall windows periodically0
