So Annoyed! - Notice of Default

I can kick myself actually! I received my credit card statement in the post today and it seems that I forgot to pay the minimum this month on it, for some reason I thought I paid it off in full last month.

The statement included another letter that says on top "Notice of Default" and it lists the late payment fee...

Will this now go onto my credit record for any other lender to see?

  • It seems a bit harsh if they have issued a default after 1 missed payment, normally they would just record a missed payment on your credit file, defaults are usually after 2 or 3 missed payments, I would ring them up to check.

The best thing to do is get a copy of your credit file from Experian and Equifax to see but normally a missed payment would be a red mark on there which other lenders can see, one missed payment though shouldn't reallt affect your credit rating too much, but you need to check if they have registered a default

  • Normally a default is registered on your credit file but, as milliemonster says, it seems a bit harsh if they have done this after one missed payment. My OH has advised all his creditors of his entering into a DMP and has yet to recieve a default !!:rotfl:
