Seen this in todays ads in The Sun, seems a good deal for a good bike will probably buy tomorrow unless anyone has a horror story about this
But scanning the net seems to be a very well built bike

couldnt find the offer advertised on halfords website, but in the paper its described as having
Lightweight 7005 alu frame
Suntour XC50 suspension fork
24 speed shimano gears
started off at £299.99, reduced down to £199.99 but now on sale at £149.99.
Looks like a nice mountain bike worth checking out if your after one.
Might be reduced because they need to replace it with a new model which often is not much of a big deal unless the fine detail matters.0 -
That reminds me, Costco had a Muddy Fox bike instore on New Years Eve that was, (I am sure) sub £200 (inc VAT) and looked a great deal, however, as usual whilst I planned to check it out after the drink shopping..... and forgot.
..... I'll have to take a look in past tomorrow.

Fine for riding round town, but you can't buy a decent mountain bike that you could seriously ride down a hard route without it breaking for under £400-500.Happy chappy0

Bought my old Halfrauds carrera 21 speed off a mate for £50 and it does the job.
There is no need to spend £400 on a bike to get you to the chip shop and back LOL
A new bike is also more likely to get nicked0 -
maybe I should buy one just to go shopping and down the pub
and a big lock so I can get back too0 -
I bought the carerra kraken from halfords for £280 - similar spec to the vulcan above. During the summer spent many hours riding with pals who had bikes costing well over 400 quid. Rode on and off road, bridleways, trails, fields, woods and whatever the countryside could throw at us. Had no problems whatsoever with the bike apart from the self-fit cycle computer shaking loose after landing.
A helmet is a must on or off road!0 -
You're not riding down big enough things then! The Halfrauds bike can be ridden off road, but the piddley front forks will limit their use down bigger drops or over rock strewn paths etc.
Actually, I had a friend who rode some sort of Halfrauds bike and he did fine. Overall performance is something like 60% rider 40% bike, though you can reach the limit of a bike.
You can still apply MSE to mountain bikes though; I bought my first moutain bike in an end of year sale for £550, list price was something like £700. I bought a set of forks for £150 because they were a 2 year old design, originally they'd been a riduculous £450 or similar. Current bike has a set of forks I bought for £200 on Ebay, 6 months old, list price was again something like £450. TBH, mountain bike is one place where I didn't mind spending some money. I couldn't keep up with my friends down the steep twisty bits on my previous bike, so I bought a new frame and forks and instantly improved my speed. I even left one or two behind down a slope one day, which is fun since I'm hardtail and they're full suspension.
I digress LOL. Out on the bike this afternoon.Happy chappy0 -
anyone gotta link to the ops bike? I need a mountain bike for getting to work and back.0

They have the 04 Kraken @ £199 (if you can get one). I've just been to the Cannock branch, they have a couple of ladies Krakens, no mens in kraken or vulcan.
The 05 kraken is £350!!!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I checked in the Exeter Vale store yesterday and they only had the Kraken 04 in 16" frame. They had quite a few of the Vulcan 04 in stock but the biggest size for this was the 18" frame.
