I need a kick up the bum!

  • oh I see o.k - definitely check out Oldstyle to see if there are any easy ways to cut down - my food bill for 2 is over 200 pounds so you are doing well there already.
    Anything you can sell/ebay etc?
There doesn't appear to be many things you can cut down on really - perhaps you need to focus on upping your income? I presume you have moved in with parents or something as you have nothing for insurance, tv licence, etc,etc and the rent is so low?
You have a good amount spare each month - maybe you need to speak to OH and identify where it is going? if he is paying out for gas/electric etc then that needs to go on the SOA as you have included his income - you should then have a more realistic picture of the situation.

I will have a look around for things to sell later. Yes we have moved in with his parents, no gas/ electric etc. Ahhh I have relised a mistake!! I have put rent as £40 a month - but its £40 p/week!! So thats £175 not £40! Well that explains abit of the mystery money which would bring it to £318...getting there!

  • Lol! Can you BT any of the Barclaycard to Virgin, Mint or Egg - maybe give them a call and say you have some debt you want to shift to them - what can they offer you?
Where is your savings money going to? Am slightly confused.

  • Well with the Virgin, Mint and Egg are nearly at their limits but I will def ring them and see if they can offer me anything more. This is where it gets confusing as it was all originally OH debts (except my car finance) but as I had a good credit rating I applied for the 0% cards for him to transfer his debt to. So he still makes the payments to them all, which is why I dont have as much outgoings as him, so I therefore am saving to get a deposit together for somewhere to rent.

How about getting rid of one of the cars?
    Or at least driving less?

    £250 a month on petrol - that's about 400 miles a week between you.
Do you both work a fair distance from home? You yourself have pointed out that you are not in high paid jobs. Could you get jobs closer to home for similar money (and save, say, £100 a month on getting there)?

Do you live with parents? Are you really only paying £40 a month (less than a tenner a week) rent for the two of you?
Edit: Cross posted. Seen that yes you do, but even so £40 a month was wrong!

Also, I hope that you only have one car insurance because the other is part of a free deal, rather than you just "hoping" you don;t have an accident or get caught!!
  • Ahh I see, I think.
Well it does seem like you have most things covered.

Fuel: I have put that as a maximum. could be £200 - £250 but if i allow for it then its best. We are currently looking for closer jobs but its hard at this time as you can imagine! We do need 2 cars yes. We will both fill up our cars and that will last 2 weeks so on average that would make it £220 p/month.

Rent: Yeah I made a mistake there, and its £20 p/week each so £175 p/month for both of us

Insurance: He pays for his insurance and my parents pay for mine

    thanks

  • How long has it been since you transferred the debt onto your cards? Can you see if he could get a new 0% balance card and transfer some of the debt back.

I'm sorry to say this, and I'm not trying to be mean, but taking on someone else's debt into your sole name is a bad idea. If you find yourself unable to afford it jointly, your credit rating gets wrecked, and there are plenty on here who have offered this kindness and then found themselves alone with the debt.

I'm sure your man is honourable, but seriously, if his rating has improved, he should take it back, or at the very least, not have you in a position where you don't know what he is paying off.... your comment about not knowing about 'his' money when his debt is in your name is a bit worrying.

I truly don't mean to upset you - I've just seen one to many people get stitched up by partners (male or female).

I hope you won't take offense, I'm aware this wasn't the kick up the bum you were expecting.

    Good luck x
