Wigginsmum - the dose on the pack of frontline is one pippette per cat per month (approx £5 per cat per month). But I tend to use one pippette on each cat every couple of months in the summer and then after about October at all - I start again in about March (when I notice them starting to scratch!)

If your pet has regular medication you are entitled to ask your vet for a prescription to be dispensed by a pharmacist. The vet will write a prescription, in much the same way as your family doctor and then give it to you. From the 31st October [2005] no charge should be made for writing the prescription.

The above is a quote from the vetmedic website.

I have found that UK based pharmacy sites are just as cheap and more reliable than overseas ones. Now you don't have to pay for the prescription - even better!

I use vetmedic and canine chemist and can recommend them both. I paid less for my frontline than the OP's recommendation in Australia.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

just to let you all know (as a farmer myself) to buy any perscription vet drugs from anywhere other than uk ,(frontline is perscription ) you are liable to a fine of £5000 , for EACH item in your possession , and they the government are being very thorough recently , so be careful !

Does this apply if you actually go to France and buy it over the counter there (where it is non-prescription) then bring it back into the UK? I bought in bulk there last year as it was half the price it is over here.

YES anything not uk (a joke as we are all part of europe for everything else !) on the box there is pom (perscription only medicine ) and followed by a number , this is the uk licence number , and anything that does not have this number is illegal . One thing i should say is that one antibiotic we use micotil was £80 per 50ml before october , after oct it was £40.00 per 50ml , as the medicines panel agreed with the vets that they had a monopoly and this was why people were bringing it in illegaly , so it was agreed that in return for reducing the price , the government would make us buy even wormers and common vaccines that we now buy over the counter , from the vets , and to apply very strict controls over what comes in from other countries , and judging by the farming press many have been prosocuted and fined thousands . Only a matter of time before they make an example of the general public over this !

one other thing it was mentioned that you can get a perscription from your vet and get what you want anywhere , which is certainly the case (this was also part of the agreement to introduce competition ) but who is going to go to their vet to get a perscription to buy elsewhere , as when you need him for something serious hes not going to be very helpful to you , for going elsewhere to buy your medicines, and i bet even to get your perscription he's still going to make you have a consultation @£26.00 so they still win ,

by the way the vet licence number is under the little pom (in a box) on the top narrow edge of the front line box , also be aware that the concentration of imported frontline and other medicines ,may be different than ours , as the common flea here is smaller than forign ones , (usa , australia etc) and the chemical is weaker, it works by body size of the intended target species . Other medicines may be for different strains (although similar) of disease , so may not work properly or create resistance , so your pet wont get well when he really needs help , as said be aware and be careful ,

    all the best andy
