Shrink Plastic - Great for making keyrings etc.

Note: This seemed like the best board to post this thread in. If not, please move it to a more appropriate board! Many Thanks

I have had some of this for a few years, but have just got it out again after I needed to make a keyring.

Shrink Plastic is great! You cut out and basically draw onto the rough side of a piece of plastic what you want on your keyring, then cook it in the oven  and it shrinks 7 times smaller! (You have to punch a whole for the keyring to go through, if using it as a keyring, before you cook it!) You can then attach a keyring through the small hole and attach it to your set of keys and it looks great! Your own custom design.

Just remember to do any writing back to front so it appears the right way round on the shiny side once cooked! ;)

I used to do a lot of those when I was little. I used to have kits called Strinky Dinks. You can't buy them in many places now.

I got this in a craft shop. It was a little bit expensive (about £5 a pack) but it does the job great. As I said, the thing I like is the ability to make your own keyring which gives your set of keys a unique touch. :)

Do it with an empty crisp packet, it ends up keyring tag size. 1a_y_grin.gif

yep, it was a craze for a while when i was at school, we all had miniature crisp wrapper badges, not sure mam was too happy with the state of the grill after failed attmepts tho.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

I was in Debenhams about a year ago and saw Shrinky Dink kits in there for £2 each which I gave to my children on a dull day in the school holidays. Otherwise they sell kits on ebay. I have only ever found the equipment in the US and on US sites other than that.

Lots of craft shops & craft sites on the web sell shrink plastic now as it's used a lot by card crafters also. It shrinks very quickly & easily with a heatgun that card crafters use with embossing powders. A friend of mine often uses it to personalise her cards, writing the recipients name on the shrink plastic. She has also made earings out of it. She stamps the design on the plastic, then embosses it with embossing powder before shrinking.

I admit to being amazed when she first demonstrated the shrink plastic to me sometime last year as I'd never heard of it before & it seemed incredible that it didn't melt.

I don't know where I've been all my life, but I'd not heard of shrinking crisp packets either. Note to myself- must get out more & educate myself as to just what is going on in the world out there. :rudolf:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
