I've tried bleach, vinegar, washing powder, brillo pad. and its still gold in the bottom and black on the outside. No luck at all with scrubbing.
I left it unwashed overnight after cooking pasta and it was gold in the morning.
(i wish that happened with my jewelery!! lol)
Any tips?
its part of a 'furnished' rented flat and i really dont want to have to pay to replace it.
thanks in advance

It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

I'd like to know the answer too as I have a new set of stainless steel pans and one of them has done exactly as yours has. The others still look shiny and new so I don't know what happened to the spoilt one!I'm so sorry if you were enjoying this thread and mine is the last post!!
I seem to have a nasty habit of killing threads!0 -
I'm baffled by this
Could one (or both
) of you post a pic so that we can see.

Hi
I've just found this thread while searching for how to clean stainless steel pans.
I have a frying pan which I made pancakes in. The sides of the pan seem to be tarnished following use.
Has anyone any ideas about how to clean this off?
Many Thanks

this site talks about some foods that can tarnish stainless steel

one of mine did this. it was the bottom part which sits on the gas. i thought it was due to i spilt some oil on it.
only way i found to get rid of it was a brillo pan and elbow grease. of course u might not wanna try this if the pan is a shiney stainless. but mine was the underside so didn't matter. i didn't see any damage fromt he brillo tho.0 -
rhubarb used to be used to return a pan to pristine condition. Try stewing some0

Easiest way to sort the inside of the pan is chop an onion and sweat it in the pan. The onion should lift all the dis-colouration. As for the outside of the pan, look for Astonish oven cleaning paste (semi-chem, kleeneze etc) its about 3 pounds, that will shift it.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0
