where to advertise your business/product/service for free?

Options
Hi everyone :)

I have just started up two ideas for me to make extra money (don't worry I'm not going to advertise on here, I know the rules!). Both are products - 1 is a gift and could be bought buy anybody. It is a 'for the person who has everything' type of product but only costs £5 so it really has a wide audience.

The 2nd item is specifically aimed at parents with children at key stage 1 or 2 age. Therefore it's a much smaller market.

Both can be sold nationally so they don't have to be a local adverts.

I already know about gumtree which I have started to use, but locally we don't have any other outlets that will accept free adverts for businesses.

I just wondered if anyone else has come across this problem - my budget is nil :D So it has to be free and preferably to a national audience.

Those of you that are doing MLM - where do you advertise and do you pay for your adverts?

Actually as I type this that has just sparked another idea; both of these items could be sold by others working on a commission. Is it easy to set up a MLM idea? Has anyone else done this with their idea (obviously I'm talking about small ideas not Avon!! :rotfl: )

I'm struggling to make ends meet on maternity leave at the moment so any information you can help with would be very welcome.

Thanks

    try facebook!

Sorry I should have said that I've started a facebook page but again I can't afford to advertise so it is relying on me personally sending invites to my page to friends and via groups etc. It's quite time consuming!

  • Could you maybe do a leaflet drop? It wouldn't necessarily allow you to conquer the UK in one fell swoop but it would get the word out locally (maybe ask your employer to put up a poster on a work notice board or have some leaflets in the canteen for people to pick up?) and then those people tell their friends, their friends tell their friends, you get the idea, but word of mouth advertising is what works best for small businesses to begin with :)

Good luck with it all - I hope you do really well from your ideas!!!

I have just ordered magnetic "signs" to go on my car. Vistaprint are doing them free, you just pay postage. They are the small size ones but I plan to put one on the back of my car so that people following me will see it! and it was £free" after all so cant do any harm!! If it works I will get more and put one on my mum's/bf's car etc.
Also vistaprint are doing the same offer on business cards so maybe order some and ask if you can leave some in your local shop/garage/hairdressers/playgroup etc.
Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!
:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!
  • You could contact the PTA at local schools for the Key Stage 1 and 2 things. Maybe have a stall at their fetes/fairs.

  • Not completely free, but cheap- how about asking to donate some of your product to local charities as raffle/competition prizes etc? It's a win-win situation, if they're able to use it to fundraise, it'll give you publicity in the process.
Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice. :(
