Btw, apologies if I am being too technical at times and confusing you somewhat, my mind tends to run away with me and having just looked back over some of my previous posts I may have been guilty of this lol.
At times, I had to have a ciggie, trying to understand what you were on about :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was to :o to say anything.

Remember to use a promotion code. I don't know if Quidco works with it, but if you use it, remember to check that too.

The promotion code SAVE5 should get you the price down to £234.00 at least. I don't know of any other codes at present im afraid.

Good luck with the purchase, I hope it is exactly what you wanted; glad I could be of some help with it. Let us know how you get on, the condition of the refurb etc...

I'll report back on it after Chrimbo, due to it being a Christmas present ;)

Currently the i7 prices seperately are around £260 for the lowest spec CPU al the way upto £900. So its probably best to add £150 at least over the cost of a C2D system for the forseeable future.

After Xmas though, this will change. The i7 has only just come out and is Intels money make for Xmas lol.

I see, it sounds smart for me to wait until after Xmas then, so the i7 either drives down the Core 2 Duo prices or the i7 itself becomes cheaper for laptops

If you can hold out, I would, you have not much to lose, but a lot to gain. Even if it helps drive down C2D prices, you may end up with a real bargain C2D system, if the i7 systems are still a bit pricey.

Its just a question of if you can be bothered to wait; I am too impatient, but then I wasnt buying my newest laptop for anything more than 24/7 business use and encoding etc, I dont game anymore, so the C2D @ 1.83Ghz will do just fine for me ( I previously had a 3.06Ghz HT Northwood laptop which was fine for my needs, so you can imagine the difference in performance I am getting with this C2D system, not to mention the silence lol).

I needed a netbook laptop, and wasnt fussed on the idea of a low res screen or an Intel Atom, so instead of buying a netbook, I decided a C2D ultra-portable would be a much better solution.

    I've never heard of Ubuntu

However, I've no idea about computers, this is going to be a Christmas present.

The lappy won't require MS works as Open office can be used, so I'm unsure about the advantage of windows.

And thanks for your help so far ;)

If you have never heard of Ubuntu and this laptop is a present defo stick with a flavour of Microsoft Windows.

    Dell sell good price machines

https://www.dmxdimension.com , this site breaks down all the machines into their cheapest e-value codes so you should find what you want at a good price. I wouldn't hold off for i7 either. It's overkill for most users (at the moment).

If the graphics card was a little bit better i would definately get that

    EDIT:
I just asked a computer company and they said that the i7 could be 6-12 months away from coming in a laptop model :(

    Hi
I am thinking of buying a new laptop for around the £600-£700 range. But i am undecided about whether it is better to get one now, or in the January sales, i haven't bought many laptops before, so i can't remember if the January sales are any good for computers. What do you guys think?

The specs i am looking at are as follows:
    intel core 2 duo P8600
    3Gb ram
    No operating system
    250gb HD
    geforce 9600 512mb

I am not sure if this is better off here or in the techie board, please move the thread if appropriate.
    Thanks

I would get a MacBook, as they are far better, more stable and actually run faster than windows do. Plus you have the added benefit of lower depreciation rate. OSX is a more far stable, easier and more fun system to use and it doesnt come with any bloatware

I use ubuntu, and save about £75 off the price with many of the benefits of a Mac, i image OSx would be even more expensive

This is the model i think i am going to get, unless anyone has seen anything better:
    intel core 2 duo 8400
    nvidia 9600 geforce
    2gb ram
    320gb HD
    With 3 year warranty

    For £595
