Help! Car has been clamped!

Hi

My neighbour just knocked on my door to tell me my car had been clamped.

Now I declared this SORN a couple of months ago and it WAS sat on my drive but my boss asked me to put my company car on my drive for safety so we rolled the car onto the road and parked it there. As (bad) luck would have it I was due to take it to the scrap yard this weekend.

What do I do? I don't want the car, it doesn't ruddy work anymore and I am loathe to pay for it to be unclamped when I will just take it straight down the scrap yard. I don't have the money anyway!

Advice anyone? I've tried ringing the number but there is no answer.

  • It's quite simple - if it's not taxed then it shouldn't be on the road. The sorn declares that it is off- road and untaxed as it is not on the road. Therefore you would have to pay to have it unclamped, moved off road and if necessary taken for scrap.

Now that it's clamped on the road you will be fined by DVLA plus have to pay removal costs even if you don't unclamp they will lift it and dispose of and you have to pay the cost.

  • If you don't pay for the car to be unclamped (and you would have to tax it before it would be unclamped), it will probably get towed away and disposed of (i.e scrapped), which is what you want.

They don't provide that service for free you know!

To the OP: Your boss should pay - the company car is insured (so no need tp be on your drive for 'safety') and you can't be forced to keep it on your drive.

    Sort it out quickly.

If you get it sorted within 24 hours, the release fee is £100. It doubles after 24 hours are up, plus £21 a day storage charges.

If you cannot get a tax disc today, they will release it for a £160 deposit (refunded if you get it taxed within 2 weeks).
