Training abroad - what am I entitled to?

Options
Hi there fellow Moneysavers!

My employers are sending me to Europe for 2-3 nights for training. Although some people would see this as a perk (I don't particlaurly as I will be away from my family), I want to know what I am entitled to claim from my employer.
Travel and accomodation are paid up front by them. My main concern is that I would normally work 8 hour days and then go home to my family. yet whilst away, effectively I am unable to go home 24 hours per day. Do you think I am entitled to time off in lieu for all the additional hours I spend away from home? There is nothing about this in my contract.
Also do they have to pay for food, drink etc?

I am usually one for only working the hours they pay me for (Moneysaving!) so am keen not to go beyond this!

Thanks
HP x

Whenever I've been on training courses away from home we didn't get time in lieu - unless your actually working (training) hours are longer than the work ones. Just because you aren't at home you have somewhere to go (which they are paying for - rightly) and can do what you want

Well if that was the case, everyone would want to be a lorry driver because most jobs involve being away up to a week.

No they don't have to pay you outside of the hours you're on the course and they don't have to pay you meals or drinks.

There is a provision in taxation for a "subsistence allowance" which is, OTTOMH, around £24 a day which can be paid tax free for such circumstances as yours but there is no legal right to it.
