Training abroad - what am I entitled to?

Hi there fellow Moneysavers!
My employers are sending me to Europe for 2-3 nights for training. Although some people would see this as a perk (I don't particlaurly as I will be away from my family), I want to know what I am entitled to claim from my employer.
Travel and accomodation are paid up front by them. My main concern is that I would normally work 8 hour days and then go home to my family. yet whilst away, effectively I am unable to go home 24 hours per day. Do you think I am entitled to time off in lieu for all the additional hours I spend away from home? There is nothing about this in my contract.
Also do they have to pay for food, drink etc?
I am usually one for only working the hours they pay me for (Moneysaving!) so am keen not to go beyond this!
Thanks

Whenever I've been on training courses away from home we didn't get time in lieu - unless your actually working (training) hours are longer than the work ones. Just because you aren't at home you have somewhere to go (which they are paying for - rightly) and can do what you want0

Well if that was the case, everyone would want to be a lorry driver because most jobs involve being away up to a week.
No they don't have to pay you outside of the hours you're on the course and they don't have to pay you meals or drinks.
There is a provision in taxation for a "subsistence allowance" which is, OTTOMH, around £24 a day which can be paid tax free for such circumstances as yours but there is no legal right to it.0
