A question about my credit file.

Hi all.

Having checked my Experian file, I have 3 accounts with reasonable limits (about £3,000 in total) and no balance owing to them.

My question is ~ is it better to have these marked as settled, or does it look better that I have credit available and am not using it? My credit score is actually quite low, although I am only using 30% of available credit, and have never missed/ late paid an account.

Thanks in advance of your replies. ;)

  • It really depends, according to mine i am using 40% of available credit and have never missed or had a late payment on file, and i have a medium credit range..it could well be who you are linked with..but if you have no intention of using the accounts then shut them down.
Previous discussions on the boards don't seem to hold out much by these scores and think it is just a gimmick to get extra dosh off you.

  • Thanks for your reply. I think I will actually close those that I'm not using, if only to prevent future temptation!

I suppose that I won't be having any searches done any time in the near future, so just keeping all the payments up to date is good enough.

    Thanks again. :D
