Hi
I wonder if anyone can help. I have an oustanding student loan debt i have stupdily ignored for a while. I am now getting txt and calls from a company called CSL. I want to repay mt debt with monthly payments but not sure if i should call these people as heard they may be threatening or come to my address? I am worried as they keep calling but should i set up a plan with these?
How do i go about repaying the loan is there another company recommened who take over my debt and i can do a monthly plan with ?
Thanks for any help

Hi Oliver,
Can't really help hugely, but the standard advice around here is to NOT call them, as debt collection agencies tend to be the biggest bullies imaginable on the phone, and will threaten almost anything to get you to part with your cash.
Not sure what you mean about a company taking over the debt, do you mean a debt management plan? If so, then remember you never have to pay a fee fopr a debt management plan (although there are PLENTY of copmanies extremely willing to sell you a fee paying DMP!) - the debt charities such as PayPlan and CCCS can do everything these fee charging companies can, but for free.
On the other hand, if you are able to offer a regular monthly payment towards this debt, and you're not in too much other money trouble, you may be able to write and convince CSL to accept a regular monthly payment. That could take a a fair but of time and a weathering a lot of threats and bluster from them to achieve, but they'd rather have SOME money than none! If you do go down that route, NEVER give them your bank details, always pay them yourself by standing order - that way they can't suddenly double your direct debit without permission!
Oh, and before you do anything, you may want to check that this company can actually legally enforce this debt - if they cannot produce the valid Consumer Credit Agreement (CCA) or whatever the equivalent is for the loan, they may not legaly be entitled to any mone off you at all.
I'm sure someone more helpful will be along in a bit
