Family and social workers can beg all they like.

Where were they when needed? I.E, to bring in the patient.

I was de-registered from my NHS dentist as I didn't attend within 12 months.
    I felt pretty depressed too.

I still do feel completely S%$t about it though.

I understand last friday i had to tell a girl that she and her family couldnt see the dentist nhs anymore because of appointments that she had late cancelled (two in a row) and she started going on about how her kids will be in pain because of ME.

It wasnt because of ME it was because of her inability to manage her time approprietly but you cant say that can you?

She made me feel so guilty but if a patient makes a appointment then it is their responsibility to honour it.
  • Don't feel so bad, you have done so much more than many people would do!! At the end of the day it may actually help - that the person has to start taking responisbility. (Its easy to live in a bubble). Wish the world had more like you!! Best wishes....

    Don't feel bad tirednewdad.

I've suffered from severe mental health problems in the past, and haven't been able to get to the dentist regularly. However, I've always been careful to schedule appointment for my 'best' times, and if I didn't feel up to it the day before, to cancel. It isn't impossible to be considerate whilst suffering from severe mental health problems.

She had been given many chances, and didn't want to take them. There is only so much you can do, and as this situation isn't resolved by now, it is unlikely to.
This has to be one of the nuttiest posts I've ever read on here.
  • Could you discuss the position you are in with her and her family and take some kind of deposit from them which will be returned if she makes her appointments but will be used to cover the cost if she fails??

Or maybe give her shorter appointments??

You cant charge for missed NHS appointments and shorter appointments only mean you'll get less done at each one. Unless you keep everyone else waiting, that is
  • I've been charged for missing an NHS appointment (in Scotland).

In England you cannot charge for failed NHS appointments. TBH I know nothing of the system in Wales/Scotland/N. Ireland BUT even if you could, its still wasted time. 'Fines' are often used as a deterent or given to a patient in the hope that they'll go elsewhere

    Why? :)............
    Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.
  • I dont mean it funny but i have to arrange appointments with my dentist months in advance because of people like her. Why should she get away with wasting your time when you could be actually seeing someone who wants the help and attends appointments.

Which area are you in because im terrified of my dentist :(

    Steph xx
