Credit Reference Report

This is a long story, so I'll tell the short version. I went into hospital January 2003, nearly died, emerged 21 months later physically disabled.

My main problem that because of this '21 month incapacitation' Egg defaulted my credit card and put so on my credit report. Whilst I was in hospital my mum got Power of Attorney and persuaded them to reduce the monthly payments significantly, which my bank account could cope with. When I came out of hospital, my social worker told me to go to the CAB for help with managing my debt (which consisted of this for just over 1000ukp, and a UPL for over 8000ukp. I did, and they advised me to cancel the direct debits, and they'd make arrangements. I cancelled them, then heard nothing from the CAB for months.

In the mean time Egg defaulted my credit card, and IF started to get nasty. I told the CAB I want nothing more to do with them. They say I told them I had no money coming in, which I'm sure I didn't say, but can't prove it.

I cancelled the Direct Debits in October.

In December I came into enough money to pay off Egg, so I told them I would be doing so, yet they sold my debt to collectors, whom I paid in full the day they contacted me.

I have a reduced payment scheme setup with IF.

I've been told I can get Egg to remove the black mark on my credit report, which would leave it clean. I already have a Notice of Correction on there, but automatted credit checks don't read them.

I don't know what to say in a letter to Egg. Can anyone help?

(yes this is my first post on here, so apologies for any mistakes)

Your best bet would probably be to write a letter explaining the above to Egg - they have the power to change the entry on your credit report as I understand it, so they're the ones to sweet talk. The problem is that the credit file deals with facts about monies outstanding, there is, quite unfairly, no allowance for the reasons behind what's on there..

I would contact Egg first off, and explain the situation - ask them to reconsider what they've put about you on your file..

Yes. Krakan is correct. If Egg have put the mark on your credit file they are the ones who can remove it. You just need to convince them.

Some of the sites listed above will be able to suggest the correct way to go about this. There may even be someone along later who can possibly point you to a template letter or something that may help.

I'm sure if the full situation is explained to someone of the relevant authority in Egg the situation can be resolved.
