Sorry RAS, posted before reading them all.....
I am a self-employed courier so a car is pretty much a vital tool of the trade. It's an Escort estate that cost me £250 three weeks ago, I haven't got round to sending the docs off yet...:mad:0 -

Yes thanks mate, much appreciated....:T
I've posted further up how I got on today. I'm going to write to the bailiffs tomorrow and offer a payment scheme to them but in the meantime, I'll keep my windows shut and doors locked.

Assuming you own the car
1. It's a "tool of the trade" as you say, so would be exempt from removal.
2. As a practical matter, good luck with proving that to a bailiff's satisfaction. Be very careful.
3. With all due respect, if you paid £250 for it then seizing it and selling it would not clear a very large debt anyway. Don't mean that to be rude, just that a bailiff looking to seize goods has to seize goods to many times the value of the debt including their costs due to poor returns in the kind of 'fire sale' auctions that usually happen in auction houses used by bailiffs. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
