Mac Powerbook G4 Won't boot, help

Hello, I'm usually a computer buff but I'm hopeless and confused when it comes to Macs
My technically incompetent friend has given me his Alu G4 powerbook to fix. The problem started when he took the battery out when it froze and wouldn't respond.
Now it won't boot. The chime sounds at power on, and a grey screen appears after not long, with a little folder icon containing cycling images of the Mac face logo and a question mark.
I'm guessing some vital boot files have been somehow corrupted by the improper shut-down.
What steps can I take to repair the boot files / get this baby working again? I'm not scared of in-depth information here.
The laptop contain's vital synth presets for Logic, which we'll be using for a gig on Saturday. Halp!

Do you have an Apple Disk ( so that you can rebbot from disk ? )
Have a look at the https://www.apple.com site and search on the support parts someone somewhere has already had the same problem as you ?, at least on that forum you should be able to have a good read up ?

Thanks guys, will post an update tomorrow. Having looked at Marty J's links, it sounds like it'll require a PMU reset, which sounds much like a BIOS reset. I think all should be well.Russia is HERE0
