For those of you with kids and have split up with OH

I am after some advice.

I am trying to get the financial side of my split sorted and I just don't know what to do?

My OH wants us to stay in the house so we can keep some normality for my little girl and she doesn't lose her school place.

Now I could just split all the finances half and ask for that amount but part of my worries he will have enough to sort himself out a new place. Please don't tell me to "sod him" lol as I want an amicable easy split to ensure my daughter is as uneffected as p ossible.

What bills should he contribute to??

I just feel so  just not a position I ever dreamt I would be in

  • But think I would ask for half mortgage, as he wants you to stay for DS and not downsize to something you can afford!

Everything else(house wise) will reduce/or stay the same where ever you go, except maybe ctax.

Edited to add that I read this that HE was leaving, you & DS staying in house.

I have not been there but I would imagine it would depend on his and your incomes.

I personally think he should be paying at least 50% of the mortgage plus insurances. And maintanence for your daughter

You'll get 25% off council tax (single person discount)

I ment that with the 25%, it depends where you are & where you are prepared to move to.
Band A houses are much cheaper than a C, which is cheaper agin than a H, its all proportional.

Sorry to hear about the split :(

I think 50% of the mortgage is fair if you're staying put.

Are you both going to remain living in the house?

Then definitely 50% of mortgage and some maintenance for you little one. I'd check entitledto as well to see which benefits you'll be entitled to as sometimes you're better off claiming less maintenance as they take it off you anyway.

Not sure if I'll get any more benefits as I think my wages are too high. I'll definately have a look though.
