Fees and Rent

  • When I rented my flat 2 years ago I too had to pay the 6 months up front. I was lucky that I had just sold my house so took the rent from there

But to clarify for those who have asked, it was 6 months up front, then pay nothing for 6 months. I set up a separate account with only a passbook and used that to save up my rent for the next payment. After 18 months of this I was allowed to pay monthly

But yes, i agree it was a massive concern to me that along the line the LL or LA would go bankrupt and I'd lose the lot!

Can you get a guarantor? if so you might be able to avoid the 6 months rent advance.

Just a thought as it worked for me!

Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.
