Allied International Credit

I recently received a letter from Allied International Credit chasing an outstanding balance of £300. Not knowing what this amount related to, I called AIC and was told by someone (who did not know the meaning of a polite telephone manner), that it was the amount I owed from a Nat West loan from 2003 which I know nothing about.
I asked the person at AIC for some written evidence of this loan but he kept refusing and re-affirming that I needed to pay.
I have seen some other posts on this site mentioning AIC and am unsure where to go from here. I would be very grateful if someone could advise me how to make contact with AIC and what information I need to ask them for or send to them. Thanks in anticiption.

It is quite possible this is not your debt even, and if it is it is close to being statute barred - no payment or written acknowledgement in the last 6 years (5 years in Scotland).

Thanks for your response Waspeze. Am I correct in thinking I should ask them for a copy of the Credit Agreement including associated costs etc?

RAS, thanks for your response. Does this mean even though it's not my debt, because it goes back nearly 6, it is unenforceble?

If it is your debt and you have neither written to them acknowledgin the debt or made a payment in the last 6 years, then the debt is statute barred (5 years in Scotland).

This means the debt still exists but it would no longer show on your credit record and the DCa can ask you to pay. if you tell them you are not going to, then legally they cannot enforce the debt throught the courts. If they try to pursue you further, they are breaking the OFT Guidelines.

This is set out in law and in the OFT Guidelines for debt collection.
