Newly wed Tips-How to have Club Card Wedding

I'm now Mrs TOG after marrying Mr Tight Old Git in September,

I just want to tell you how we saved a small fortune using those old faithful Tesco Clubcard points we save in 2007.

Firstly we saved enough to buy my beautiful white gold and diamond wedding band from Goldsmith's using the vouchers- a whopping saving of £495.00!!

I have just paid to have my wedding dress professionally dry cleaned at Johnsons Drycleaners, The Club Card vouchers saved me £90.00!

Other suggestions for saving on your wedding costs using Tesco points inlude the folowing:
  • Great days out, top attractions and activity days-for saving on Hen/stag weekends.
  • Weekend breaks in top named hotels, ideal for hen/stag, wedding night or honeymoon short breaks.
  • Bridesmaid/gifts, wedding jewellery from Goldsmiths-total spend must be over £200.00
  • Travelling; Cruising, Flights & Holidays available from a variety of companies perfect for saving on honeymoon costs. Virgin Holidays also have a Wedding brochure for those of you planning to get married abroad.
Other tips I have for those of you marrying in 2009.....

Use the internet to shop around....
Many top price items in bridal shops such as tiara's, costume jewellery, favours and table decorations can often be found on the web and particulary ebay for much less!!

I found hair jewellery for my 3 bridesmaids on ebay for £6.99 each which were priced at £59.00 each in the bridal store!!

Consider selling your wedding dress after the day-although it may be hard to part with, you could recover up to 50% or more of the cost of your dress if you sell it within a year, afterall it will only collect moth balls and go out of fashion if you put it away in the attic, never to be seen again!

Finally the major cost of a wedding is catering, especially if you are having a wedding reception banquet and then a buffet for evening guests later.
Carefully consider how many guests will be eating and at what time, weigh up the options, many venues have a minimum number for the reception, you may want to consider providing a sit down meals for all your guests in the evening and leave out the buffet option altogether, another nice way of feeding your guests without costing the earth is by providing a cream tea and scones in the early afternoon or bacon butties and chips later on at night!

Be inventive- its your day and does not need to cost the earth!

  • Glad you posted this, I have quite a few pounds worth of Clubcard vouchers saved up and have been thinking about using them towards my wedding, Goldsmiths being a major consideration. I'm sure I've seen something about being able to get double the vouchers face value on wine too.
May I ask how it went down in Goldsmiths when you went in there and spent £495 worth of vouchers? I'm a little worried they may look down their noses at me...
