Hi there
I have been successful at interview and have been offered a new job.
Slightly new to me is that my new employers is using Kroll to perform background checks and obtain references.
They have asked for employment details for the last 5 years with accompanying line manager details and telephone numbers. For me, this is 4 employers. My question is, will they ask just the last two for references or are they allowed to approach all for references? Maybe they will just check with the others that I actually worked there?
Just wondering as I did not leave on the best of circumstances from my 3rd last employer, and was kind of expecting them not to be approached for a reference, so this has thrown me a little!
Many thanks for your help and advice.

They check for full references on however many your employer has asked for, so say for example they ask for the last 2 employers refs-the remaining two jobs will checked-but only for dates you worked to and from.
I have been searched by Kroll recently, that I was done for my job and this is what happened to me.
So the short answer is no, they will not ask for full details on all your past jobs, to my knowledge.
Were you dismissed in any of your jobs??Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!

Thanks very much for your response.
I was indeed dismissed from my third last job. Do you think they will ask the reasons for leaving if they do not want a full reference from them?0 -
but was was the outcome?0

I used to work for the company who were bought by Kroll, conducting exactly the same checks you mention.
Unless things have changed massively, I believe it's a templated letter that gets sent to all the employers (as many as is stated) but they ask for the same information from all. So, they may indeed invite a reference from all four.
As standard, they check dates worked, position on leaving as well as reason for leaving.
Some firms don't provide all of this and just confirm that so and so worked here between X dates, but there is quite a high likelihood that the dismissal will come out.
Have you disclosed this to the employer? You may not have been required to do so, but it was my understanding whilst working there that these checks were part of any offer being made and things like a dismissal - especially if covered up by employers - generally meant that candidates didn't proceed.0 -
is there a way for employers (in this case future) to check where you did work - will HRMC or DWP divulge this to anyone. MY CV is I fine, I was laid of in June, and took a 6 week gig with a company - things did not work out, is an understatment. I signed back on, and usually explain it away as a mixture of holiday and contracting - no reference required and in conversation all are fine with that. Just comes back to it, can non security service people actually get a list of employers from HRMC ?

I am doing some part-time web-design work along with my full-time job (also in IT). I have done this since I was a student and mentioned this on my CV as the experience from the part-time job was a real plus to me. This was ok during interview as I usually do the part-time from home on a Sunday for 5-6 hours. Now I got the new job and they sent me a the kroll background check form. Do I need to mention part time work done in parallel with full-time work. I dont want to mention it because I dont want kroll contacting the current part-time employer (they can freely contact the current full-time employer). I don't want them knowing I am changing jobs yet. There is nothing falsified on my CV, and I haven't been fired or anything just I don't need kroll poking around the part-time work. I have no breaks in full-time employment. So can I leave the part-time out though its mentioned on my CV that was given to the new employer? I'm on the payroll for part-time work so HMRC knows about it.0

I'm glad i've found this thread. I too have been offered a new job, subject to a Kroll Background Check. Whilst i am not concerned about any reference checking, i am concerned about a small criminal record. A possesion of Class C drugs charge from 1997 (when i was 18. 31 now) and more recently a dangerous driving charge. I'm concerned that these charges could result in the job offer being withdrawn. At no stage did i have to disclose that i had a criminal record in the interview process.
Whilst i know that Kroll simply provide the information to the employer, i thought that at the same time they might grade me, or put me in a certain class of people due to the fact i've got 2 criminal acts on my record.
I'm really worried as i've told my parents about the job offer, but i've never told them about the charges!!
I see on the online form for Kroll that there is space to add any general comments and wasnt sure if these comments would be transferred to the employer???
Thanks so much for any assistance.0
