They'll find a way around to continue the sale of compatible inks, I would imagine any company that can produce high enough quality compatibles can sell millions and millions of them every year as it is a very popular line of Epson printer.

I used to own a R320 (Same as R220 but with LCD for settings etc and small (Very small!) colour LCD for previewing photos before printing built into the printer) which cost £100 in a Epson promotion a few months ago. I sold the cartridges in the box for £25 on eBay so it cost £75 for the printer overall. It seems the printer gets quite a few of those scratches you can only see in light at a angle just by running a duster over it! So the other week I flogged it on eBay for £85 and tomorrow I am picking up a R220 from Argos (£70 - 10% discount I can get for member of family working there = £63) as I have found I just do not need the built in screens and controls on the R320! (It can all be done so much easier on the PC!). Then I can sell the cartridges included with the R220 for £25 making the R220 cost a grand total of £38 (Plus I suppose £5 to get a new set of compatible inks to put in the printer). Can't see the silver design getting as badly scratched as the translucent design.

    £38 compared to £75. A big difference!
