According to Solicitor's Rules, they are supposed to tell their client (in our own case that is my husband, as he is the co-executor) what their charges will be before they begin work. At least that's how I understand it. I was going to try and give you URL to see this, but the Law Society website is currently unavailable:
"The website www.lawsociety.org.uk is temporarily unavailable. Our technical staff are working to resolve the problem.
We apologise for the inconvenience and suggest that you return to the site later today."redrosegirlie wrote: »
I'm pleased that interest is being added however the shares value has dropped / falling still
They are supposed to put money into a high interest account. But as sloughflint has mentioned in other threads, their idea of "high interest" is not necessarily yours.
We have given up even trying to find out how the solicitor executor is dealing with the estates now - it's just done our mental health in... And my physical health - saw a cardiologist yesterday due to symptoms I had earlier this year. Fortunately I gather he thinks that I am OK and it was due to stress, which is what I suspected, but when you have chest pain it's best to get it checked out.
We have faith in our new solicitor, and rely on them to sort out the mess. They are a STEP practitioner, so have recognised expertise in wills and probate.
As to the shares, you may be able to reduce the IHT if you do it within a year of the death (we are too late for that) according to an article I read in the FT at the weekend. This one from Friday is also possibly useful.
Best wishes, and good luck!0
