I've made a few small changes today and already feel so much better for it. I owe £23k on credit cards, no overdraft or secured loans. Didn't realise until a few months ago how seriously in debt i was but am now making the effort to pay it off.
I managed to get my winter fuel rebate from British Gas and registered for egg money, so already thats £70 for not doing much.
I've changed my car insurance which has managed to save me £200 nearly.
I've been on the phone to all my credit card companies and have been finding out the APRs on balance transfers. They aren't great but they are better than nothing, so will be shuffling a few debts around.
Cant apply for any new cards right now as my credit isnt too good. But im returning to work full time so im hoping i'll have more money to pay off what i owe!

I've been lurking around the site for months picking up tips and advice.
It's everytime i read this site, it gives me motivation to sort my debts out.
Also, forgot to say, i had £700 left in my savings account which wasn't really earning me anything so i wacked it onto my cards.Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700

Hye Glittermoney
Welldone you for making a start, looks like your heading in a positive direction.
Have you checked your credit rating out? Might be worth while getting a report and seeing exactly what's what and then you can read the article on the site to try an improve it.
Also, have you done a budget? Looked at ways of cutting so you can pay off the debt more quickly?

Good on you Glittermonkey!
I agree, everytime I come to this site- seeng people who are in worse debt than myself- and who are taking positive steps is a great motivation. It also makes you appreciate the money you earn and how you should spend it....Debt /Overdraft/Everything Free December 2007 :j0 -
Hello,
No i haven't applied for a copy of my credit rating in a long time. I know it isnt good as i got refused a new card a few months ago and one of my card issuers wont increase my limit so i can do a balance transfer due to me being late on a few payments this year. I've never missed one just due to bad time keeping i have payed it late.
In Feb when i get my Egg anniversary offer i can move a hefty amount of debt onto it and will be paying £40 per month less interest!
I've also reduced my sky package tonight, cant cancel as im still into my 12 month contract, so im just paying £10 per month now for the sky+ subscription, i was in credit with them so dont have to pay anything for the next 3 months!
Ii did do the budget planner a while ago and it wasn't good so im going to re-do it now i've cancelled sky, gym, changed tarrifs etc and hopefully i'll see an improvement.
Instead of sitting up all night worrying about my debts, im now up all night finding ways to earn more/rduce things so i can pay it off - it's great!Lightbulb moment Dec 2005 - debt £23700

Thanks Glittermonkey, I agree with what you said. I am a newbie and now I am always thinking of ways to reduce my outgoings and clear my debt quicker. This site gives me so much inspiration.0

Hi Peppa,
It's a great site isn't it.
Im actually looking forward to my credit card bills coming in this month so i can see what i owe and how my debt may of reduced ( even a little bit) after all my changes i've made so far.
Still have a long way to go, but finally feel in control rather than letting it get out of control.
Good luck to you, hopefully this time next year we'll be celebrating a bit more as we'll have less debt!
