Hi, Does anyone know if Copyright applies to childrens Nursery Rhymes?

I want to use the words of some rhymes on labels / backgrounds etc.

This is just advice, I'm not a solicitor.
Many nursery rhymes are not copyright, either as giggity showed in her link because they are so old now and it's passed or as a lot are author unknown or were just never copyrighted in the first place.
I hope there's some you want to use on here as these are all copyright free

I can't say for definate that they all are but that's what the page claims.
I think this would be a good starting point at least. Many are public domain now.
Hope it's of some help to you.
If you wanted to use pictures on your labels too - unless they're your own, you'd have to check that out as it's a whole other ball game.

Thanks giggity and soblivion, It was Pata-cake (Bakers man) I wanted to use as that is what I have called my Nappy cakes.

according to this site, the rhyme has been around since at least 1698 (so well out of copyright!) however it may be that peole still hold copyright on any illustrations or typographical arrangement (fornt, size, layout etc) so it is best to design your own layout (rather than cut and paste from a book or website).
