Aeshna, might you be able to claim Government funding for insulation? They seem to offer these things on a regular basis if you're in receipt of certain benefits I think. Not too sure of the details, but might be worth ringing the council to check.
A friendly word with your downstairs neighbour might be in order (when she's not got her 'heavy' in tow, lol). Ask her to let you know straight away when she is bothered by some noise then you may be able to pinpoint where it actually is coming from.
It must be awful, for all of you..........good neighbours are worth their weight in gold, worth trying to sort out the problems I imagine!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Ooh, that one in particular is a *really* good idea.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Thank you Karmacat and consultant31 for your words of support.
I got a letter through the door yesterday morning from my neighbour downstairs saying that she loves me to bits and she didn't mean to upset me but the noise was troubling her. I saw her tonight actually as I was coming home, she gave me a hug and asked if I was ok. I didn't think I was that obvious about being upset at the time, but with the lack of soundproofing, maybe she heard me sobbing to myself all night! Anyhow, she's frantic that I feel I have to move and we've more or less come to a 'try to see both sides of it, see how we can sort it together' agreement. She actually made a point of apologising for the neighbour from the next stair, made it clear that she's not a friend, but had caught her on her way up to see me and tagged along. She was distressed at the way she (the other neighbour) had talked to me and doesn't want our friendship ruined because of it.
On reflection, I probably blew everything out of proportion, I have a dear cousin in hospital after a really bad stroke, and I suspect that my blubbering was probably delayed reaction to that. Long story short, he's not going to recover and I'm really just waiting on the call I know will come any day. I'm devastated as I only just got back in touch with him after a family falling-out that at the time I was too young and carefree to even ponder. I'm so glad that I made the effort though, as he's now spent a lot of time with me and my parents, and I know for certain it made a big difference in his life over the last couple of months. Anyhow, the main point of this is that I've really realised that while my debt might be a pain in the neck, I could be so much worse off, I have a b/f, family and friends who love me, and at the end of the day that's more important.
I've spoken with Egg today - think the poor lad was a bit baffled actually, must have been new! They're defaulting me straight away, as I expected, but they've taken note of my CCCS number and have been set straight. I also spoke with Vanquis last night, the operator I dealt with must have been very familiar with the routine, asked for CCCS number and said she'd record it on file. Uncle Buck has sent me another default letter, which is strange, but basically say that next stage will be County Court Judgement without further notice. I received 7 default statements from Littlewoods, yes, count them SEVEN:rolleyes: One for the full balance and 6 for missed monthly payments, all showing different amounts. No idea what that's all about! Oh, and Greenwoods didn't turn up at the door on Tuesday night for their weekly payment - this must be the 3rd week in a row, so it looks like they've taken my CCA request on board and aren't taking any action of any kind until they've supplied it. Nice to see someone playing it by the book.
I've completed my Qype Amazon Challenge and I'm 303 points away from being a Ninja!! This is great, it's so nice to find a site that rewards you so quickly, but I dare say I might start to struggle to think of places to review before long!!

I am *so* relieved to see your post. At all, but also to find that your neighbour has reconsidered and is more realistic. But I'm very sorry to hear about your cousin, thats very sad, very tough. You have a lot to be grateful for, its true - we all do! There are people with terrible illnesses, people who are dying unexpectedly - like right now in Mumbai - and we *should* be grateful for not being in that state. But it doesn't mean that we're not going through tough times too - its very hard dealing with debt, trying to make sure that you don't go under.
On the fun side of things - yay to qype! Glad you managed to get in to the amazon thing before they ran out of vouchers, thats good news. The first lot of vouchers have gone out, apparently, but I haven't got mine yet, I wouldn't have thought I'd be in the first lot.
What's your name on there? PM me if you want - I'll pm you mine.
I work in London on Fridays, so I won't be around very much tomorrow - I'll see you soon. Take care of yourself!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Thanks honey, your concern is touching - I did pop on here last night, but was too upset to post, I'm trying to look forwards but it's harder right now.
PM on the way! Have fun in London, I hope your day isn't too tough, soon be the weekend, yay!

Well, got some news over the weekend that I'm trying not to get overly excited about! My ex is putting the house on the market (again) and long story short I'll get some money when the sale goes through - enough to cover all my debts with a smidge left over. Unfortunately, knowing how the property market is, this might be some time down the line, as he already had the house on the market for 6 months before with absolutely zilch interest. We'll see, but it's encouraging news. It's making me wonder whether I should try to avoid defaults though, as if I can repay all my debts soon, it would be good to do so without all the creditors defaulting me, I don't know, I suppose I should just take the defaults as they're bound to happen within the timeframe in which the house sells, if at all. Aarrrghhh!!

Fingers crossed the house will sell and solve your debt problems.
I would try not to default where possible as this can have a detrimental effect on your credit rating although I appreciate its not always that easy.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

It *is* good news! I agree with doodledo - try, try try not to default. If you do have to, try to keep it to just one - I know thats negative thinking, allowing the possibility of a default. But one will look less bad than five or whatever. Get selling stuff! I used the ebay/ebid challenge to list everything that can be listed on amazon, i.e. has a bar code and is listed by them. It doesn't bring in a huge amount, but if you're *nearly* covering a debt, it could make the difference.
And houses are selling, at the right price - the friend I went to see last night has just accepted an offer on hers, and had an offer accepted on the house she wants.
