Where have I gone wrong?

I never , ever want to smell white vinegar again!
I've tried EVERYTHING to get the dog-wee smell from my carpet, first I shampooed it with my vax, then I scrubbed it with bio powder, it still had a faint odour when it dried so I got some white vinegar and bicarb - OMG, the stench is unbearable and it's been 3 days - the carpet is dry but the smell is making me gag.
DD says is just smells as if I've cooked fish and chips but I've come in from work tonight and the smell is incredibly strong - I think I prefer the dog-wee! It's a concrete floor so no floorboards to soak up the whiff thank goodness.
I even propped the carpet up last night by about 2 inches with a plank of wood to let the underlay dry - it's now shrunk back from the edge of the laminate flooring in my kitchen:mad: .

What the hell will get rid of the pong - I'm after a permanent solution not temporary like neutradol etc.?
How can people say the vinegar smell goes away?

    Tried biological soap powder?
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.
  • When we moved into a house that had a wee smell, we used the odour remover that you can buy from the Rug Doctor stands in the supermarkets, and it worked for us - it might work for vinegar too? I know it's designed for carpets but I'd imagine that it'd probably work on a hard surface too.
  • have you tried just sprinkling bicarb onto it and leaving it?? it is supposed to absorb smells. may be worth a try.

Not sure about the vinegar smell - but dry bicarb sprinkled on wee - rubbed well in and left to dry then vacuumed.

Here are some search results for the vinegar.

And, it's all out there. Here is a problem we tend not to get here - how to get the smell of skunk out of your pet's fur!

The little bu**er won't cut and paste!

It's on ehow, there is a lot of useful info on there. Worth a look.
