hi to all
My wife would like to work as an urdu language translator within the nhs in oxford.
Please would anyone advise on how to go about it,anyone with experience?
Also will she have to undertake any courses if so which ones?
She can drive and she has access to a car.
Many thanks to all in advance.

I don't think that the NHS employs interpretors/translators directly, I believe that the services are provided by agencies like this one.

Hi I work in a children's hospice and we use translators occasionally. We use a nationwide company called Languages unlimited and we pay the translators by the hour plus travelling expenses. Maybe she could contact them, Good Luck.hi to all

Call the PALS team of the local hospital / PCTs and ask what agencies they use.
We use services from social services for some languages, a hospital for another and another PCT for sign language. I know social services have the main languages in house and contract out to an agency for the others."This is a forum - not a support group.
