Digital Camera Memory card and charger help please

Options
Hi

I bought the Samsung Digimax A4 from argos the other day in the sale. we only want it as we are going america in the summer and just want an easy to use camera. Basically i dont have a clue when it comes to digi cameras. I want 512mb memory card and was looking in dixons today and they had 1 half price, reduced from 59 to 29 pounds. it was Lexar.

Firstly can i just buy any make of memory card? Is a 512 good enough to store quite a few picture? Is that a good price for it or is there better elsewhere.

Next can anyone advise on a good charger and batteries and where to get them from?

thank you all in advance

Don't have this camera so this is based on reviews (check your camera instructions before buying...).

The memory card needs to be SD or MMC - couldn't find the Lexar one on the Dixons site, but it's not a bad deal if it's SD/MMC for the price (would expect a 'mid-brand' card to be £20-25). Should tell you in the camera manual how many shots you'll get on a 512mb card - would expect it'll be over 300 (depends on how the camera compresses pictures).

Batteries are (2) AA size - a set of 4 NiMH and a charger should be enough. Get a charger which can work on different voltages (US is 110 volt).

Quite a few people on the site recommend the 7dayshop as a supplier - not tried them myself, but a coupe of links to get you started...

  • Likewise, I don't have this camera.

However, I can recommend 7dayshop...provided you've time to wait for the delivery i.e. 7-10 days. I've never had any problems with the kit I've bought from them...and no I'm not an employee!

As ManatHome has suggested, take a look in the manual...it'll tell you (somewhere) which card you need. Based on that go to 7dayshop and order away. Steer clear of Dixons, Jessops, etc. as they take a hefty slice of profit from the consumables that you need to get your camera up and running with.
  • It would appear that your camera uses SD Cards - according to the website.

If this is the case look here for a range of sd cards starting from £17.
