I started renovating my DD's old dolls house a couple of years ago but gave up as I couldn't find furniture the right scale size

However I'm now inspired to carry on and finish it :j www.printmini.com looks an amazing site :T :T

I have lovely memories here of making things with my dd's for her dolls house in the 60's and 70's. Screw on toothpaste tube lids are useful, we made pot plants and all sorts from them, and a larger screw cap became the shade of a lamp. We used cooks match boxes for furniture, cover with a little foam and fabric. I want one now....... ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

When you say old...it could be valuable. Dolls houses are generally made in the scale of 1/12th ie 1 inch equates to 1 foot. Most old dolls houses were not made for children as young as 5 to play with, but for older girls/young women to learn about housekeeping etc, there were also shops eg butchers so they could learn the different cuts of meat

Hi, not sure where to put this really

I have taken hold of a lovely dolls house which I intend to 'do-up' but really have no idea of what I am doing!

I have started to remove the roof paper (old and tatty) and I am going to paint it.

There is some green felt carpet in one of the rooms which is stuck solid to the floor - anyone have any fab ideas of what I could use to get rid of it?

Hiya, I used to build, decorate and wire dolls houses for Sue Ryder care. You could damp the felt with a spray bottle leave it for a while and see if it comes off. You can buy carpet from dolls house suppliers/e bay/ hobbycraft for about 2 pounds a room. As for wallpaper use wrapping paper or small patterned wallpaper samples. . Sample paint clours would be perfect or leftover paint. As for furniture I think you could start with the basics and add to it as you go along. you can make it as simple or as ornate as you like.

Hi, thanks for replying. I am hoping to make it partially child like for my 2 year old god-daughter. Pale sand colour on the outside with maybe a pink roof and door/shutters and bright solours inside but not 100% sure yet

We made wallpaper for DD's house by making patterns on the computer and printing off :)

I wouldn;t bother with floorcoverings - I'd prefer paper of floorboard pattern, and then rugs on top.

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more ideas.

There's a good website at mysmallobsession.com. Some free projects and lots of links to other sites.

There may be a local dolls house and minatures group .If you have a local dolls house shop they will probably be able to help you. I used to belong to a group and found them to be a great help-we made some lovely things-but that group has folded now due to a decline in membership.
