Lost my job - HELP!!!!

Hi everyone

I am still planning to go bankrupt but need advice again. I have been told that my contract at work is not being renewed as of the end of this month so I have gone crazy joining agencies to try & get some temp/contract work lined up as it doesnt look hopeful on the permanent front, not in this current climate anyway.

So.....what should I put on the BR forms? Also will I still have to pay £495?? Please help.

HI Fla, so sorry to hear you have lost your job.

If you are going to qualify for benefits, it might in turn mean you won't have to pay the £150 court fee but I think you still have to pay the OR £345 am afraid.

Best wishes and hope you find a job soon, better than the last one! :D

You fill in the forms as off the day you go bankrupt, I know in reality this is a bit difficult as most people like to fill them in a bit in advance etc but if you think you will be unemployed on the day of BR then fill it in as that.

Even if you get a job you may not know what your take home will be.. just explain to the OR the situation.

I think you need to have proof that you are actually on benefits in order to be eligible for the discount, not just be "due" them.

Good luck with the job hunting!!

When were you planning to go BR?

You might be better to check what benefits you entitled to, just in case, and apply anyway, you might get help with housing benefit and not lose your flat then.

Hope it doesn't come to that. Keep your chin up cos you never know what good thing is around the corner. ;)

You need to sign on. The job market is looking bleak for almost everyone and if you are getting JSA, you will also be entitled to housing benefit (LHA) and council tax benefit. Sign on - the worst that can happen is you find a job and have to sign off again, so no loss there then!

Once you are on JSA, you will get the court fees waived (with proof and approriate forms) but the OR fee will still need to be paid.
  • thanks you guys - I am trying to stay strong its just scary thats all......what is JSA?

You can apply for Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) online - you will need to register with the Gateway service first, but that takes minutes. DO THIS NOW! Then, they will call you back within 2/3 days for a telephone interview and after that they will make you an appointment to go and see them.

Claiming JSA is not the nicest thing to do. From our experience, they are belittling staff. But you have to grin and bear it, and ride it out.

Also RIGHT NOW, phone your local council offices and ask them to send to you housing benefit/council tax benefit forms asap - or get your butt into the council offices first thing AM. Fill these in ASAP and get them back with proof as asked on the forms. They will ask if you are getting or have applied for JSA (etc) so you can and MUST send these back even if you have not heard about your JSA claim - the benefit can only be back-dated for very short periods so its best to do this ASAP.

Its not fun, nor quick, but there is no guarantee of you getting a job in the near future and you cannot risk losing your flat. Home is more important right now.

One thing I cannot comment on though, is your eligibilty of said benefits. If you can get JSA, then the LHA/Housing/council benefits are automatic. Most people are entitled to JSA or something else.
  • Hi,

I'm not sure about all councils but mine you can download housing benefit and council tax rebate forms from their website, simpler than going up to the council offices.
