I am feeling quite belittled after a run in on another board, it appears my idea of making a few nappies and wipes disgusts a certain poster. I didnt want to point out that 25 years of helping my mother do her 2nd job as a seamstress made me a dab hand at the sewing machine.

Why is it people sneer just because some can actually make an item rather than buy it.

good news though, midwife appointment today!

Good grief, I've just read it. I've never seen such nasty, snide comments in all my years of using forums. And that person only signed up to MSE last month (unless they were here before under a different name, wouldn't surprise me if they'd been previously banned!).

Don't less this get you down lauren_1 There are those people born that can never see the good in anything and are simply not equipped to deal with life when it gets tough. Years ago, my DM also made several dozen muslin nappy liners for my babies. They lasted right through and I finally used them as dusters. Wipes are expensive, can block drains or add to the rubbish and don't suit all babies. My first born had terrible eczema and we could only use water and a special ointment. Stick to your O/S ways and don't let others get you down.:)

PS What a horrible thread lauren_1 I have just read through some of it and felt myself getting all hot and bothered, I would keep off there if I was you. Some of the posters comments are really nasty. You're amongst friends here.

charlies-aunt So sorry to hear you have had that news, but November is a while away and something could turn up (((hugs))))

Sorry about the job news Icelandic queen.

charlies-aunt - sorry about your news too - thats what happened to me last year. NHS getting rid of fixed term contracts and taking agency staff on instead.

I used to work in a Tax Credits Call Centre, lasted 15 months, it was a nightmare - customer service - don't make me laugh:eek::eek::eek:. All they were concerned about was how long you were on the phone, and how many phone calls you could take in a day (statistics). Any call longer than 7 minutes and there was a major inquisition. I walked out in the end - nearly 57 years old, and it's the only job I've ever walked out of. How on earth you are supposed to help people with queries and overpayments etc. and resolve all the problems within 7 minutes is ridiculous.

On a brighter note, I was in Mr A yesterday pm and got a mahoooosive turkey leg reduced to 77p. Gone in freezer - early start on Xmas dinner:j:j:j

Hugs to all - sounds like we need 'em :)

...i think 'scabbing about in jumble sales' should be on the school curriculum personally, lol :)

Along with personal financial management, OS household management and charity-shopping :D
....Something that has made me smile today - the rag and bone man came round today, I offered them a broken washing machine that's been quietly festering away for about eight months, and they asked if the pile of junk surrounding it was all rubbish too. Well yes it was... some of it had been there even before we moved in :o
Anyway, they got my normal bin and my recycling bin and went through the lot, taking even the most rusted useless-looking metal and carefully sorting out the rubbish as they went. I'm still going to need a skip (there's two old sofas out there!!! not mine I must add) but I have a lot less rubbish there and it's all nice and tidy. And the men must presumably get some money for it and it all ends up recycled instead of landfilled. So it's win-win-win.

Then my neighbour started moaning and said I shouldn't encourage '!!!!!!' to hang around

Steptoe & Son weren't !!!!!!, why do people make such assumptions that all R&B men are from a travelling lifestyle?!

My sentiments exactly. I don't post much, and rarely read anything beyond stuff on this forum on this website. Weird creepy person..

Lauren, its easier to sneer than to roll up your sleeves and DO something. And we are all different, we all have only one life ( I think, not sure on this lol) - so we should just do our own thing and ignore the herd staring over the hedge. :)

Lauren - there was a person on there (we all know who I mean) who is obviously a fool. Why are you concerned with people like that. There is lots of lovely people who want to support each other, then you get people like that (usually bored people)....forget it.

I remember my SIL being all uppity because I used cloth nappies as opposed to disposables. Mainly because I thought it would be cheaper, I had time to wash them, and I thought it was morally the best thing to do. If I could have made my own I certainly would have done, and I would have made a point of letting SIL know that I had made them to show her I didn't really care what she thought. Good for you for thinking outside the box!

Edit: Ooh I've just remembered I used to buy good quality wipes and if they were only lightly used I would put them in the washing machine and use them again.

Good Lord! How extremely very disgusting! (;)) Don't go onto the other thread and confess to that, you might not get out alive! Lauren, sorry you got so shot at in that thread. I don't have outlook on my computer so I couldn't report any of the posts for abuse, otherwise I would. I don't usually get involved in arguments on forums cos life's too short, but that one takes the biscuit!

That's because the last time the blues were in power, they sold off most of the family silver - BT, gas, electric, water, steel etc and so there is nothing left to flog off except those things and nothing to provide an income to the country when it needs it.

Didn't help when GoBro sold off the country's gold reserves at a low price and then we got invoved in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, racking up billions of debt.

Apparently the Canadians are not doing too badly, because they managed their assets better in the first place. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10409354.stm

Lauren - can't believe some people

This is supposed to be Money Saving Expert is'nt it?

I, for one, can't believe the money some people spend on new baby stuff when there is so much lovely nearly new stuff out there begging for a new home.

When things get tougher we will all be looking to re-use things rather than buy new.

I like this board too even though I don't post.
