Had a very frugal morning - got a pack of red lentils that I bought when they were only 45 pence and made over 4 litres of lentil soup with it and a 2lb loaf tin full of lentil pate.
Also made a sandwich loaf in the Panny - total cost for all three things about £1.50!!!
It has started to snow so I am trying not to go out and use things already in the fridge etc.
Have been very cunning and making really cheap recipes over the last week or so to convince DH that we can manage if he retires early."This site is addictive!"

ooohh i don't think i have ever started a thread on this board....so be kind...
i work in the property industry  which has been going really badly....i have seen colleagues made redundant and i am on half hours at the moment...
things had been quiet for a while, now we have just heard 2 of the big firms have let go all the people at my level....all of them....a friend came back from lunch and everybody was gone.....
Thing is that now i am really frightened again....I am on my own with DS & DD. My ex had avoided the CSA for the whole of last year and i was starting to despair of any money being forthcoming, however his arrears for a portion of last year have miraculously been paid! over 5k! :T so what is the OS thing to do? i have some bills to pay run up last year which i think is sensible to pay off but this will leave me with 4k what should i do? put it all away? bulk buy stuff when its on offer? buy half a cow off the butcher? i wanted a sewing machine to make stuff cheaper like curtains should i get one now?
so thats the question what would you do, all ideas most welcome....Every Penny's a prisoner :T0 -
I think if you can sew, having children you should totally get a sewing machine. They can't be THAT expensive (compared to your 4k!) Tehre's a thread here called "Does anyone here sew their own clothes?" or something, I'll find it for you.
About the rest, I don't know, but surely a bunch of OS'ers will be coming along with ideas

Why not try freecycle for a sewing machine?
There is a thread on here saying "it is tougher NOW!"
